Re: FL?
Its absoltely perfect for dubstep, its got the step sequencer as default making sick drums super easy and its got a couple of different sythns to get you started...
Without sounding like a dick, it'll be you who needs to improve not your DAW... I've been producing on FL for near a year and after about the first couple of months i had learnt to use it pretty intuitively and yet my production value keeps growing to date...
What I would reccomend is finding yourself some more samples, the standard FL ones are good but quite limited and well used...
Maybe pick up another synth and a distortion plugin (FuzzPlus 2 for me) as well and then you should be set.
What i'm really struggling with at the moment and i reccomend you think about is the sound you are truelly going for. It's very easy play around and find a nice sound, but is it really the sound your looking for? How is it going to progress through your track? Does it leave potential for other sounds? That kinda stuff... To pick a title and make a chuuune accordingly is fucking tough shit my friend...

Re: FL?
i use it too! sometimes peeps tell its for kiddys, its shit and bla bla. the only problem WAS the sound quality but the new versions havent got that problem anymore!
many guys use it as told: skream, benga, numbernine, me and many many more!
its important to get good vst´s and good sample packs to start ur own style.
keep things up! good luck on it man

I use Fl and have since 6 came out. It's a really under appreciated DAW. It has (in my opinion) the best step sequencer out there and a fairly nice playlist and a nice browser for finding your sounds. Like they said above it's important to get a synth or two and a few plugin FX to get ya going.

Re: FL?
i use it as well. I couldn't give two flying fucks about any people smirking down upon for doing so.
It's got a great sequencer as mentioned...plus you can basically customize every single sample already at hand or just import your own and dabble around with those.
Good VST plus you can dl loads of others. Some people might say it doesn't sound "professional" well, there's alot of programs you can use to mix your tunes in after you've made em in FL so don't worry about that.
Your art is not limited or diminished by the "tool" you use to create it, the only boundary really is your own imagination and creativity.
I mean, Burial made all his fucking tunes in Soundforge so, go figure.
To use an old gay saying: It's not the size of the nail that counts, it's the the way you hammer it in.

Re: FL?
You could make classical compositions, score a movie, or make insane technical death metal in fl, as long as you know what you're doing, have a good ear, and have a bit a talent.
Tbh 6 months isn't long enough for any software, give it at least a couple of years. Not saying don't try out other stuff, but the software isn't going to make it easier.. you have to know what you're doing. If you keep moving to other software instead of learning one inside and out you'll never get anywhere.

thank you. thats the point I was trying to bring across.
FL is powerful enough, you just gotta know wtf you're doing and you can export and master it in a diff program i.e. mix it to perfection.

What DAW cant do this??? (except no vst in reason)
you make it sound like its unique to FL
no harm done, but this statement did make me chuckle
Re: FL?
FL is as good as any other DAW. Its not the tools its the person behind them. If you take the time to learn it inside and out there isn't really anything it can't do.
The 3xOCS is a great little synth that you can get some brutal bass sounds with. What about Sytrus? I put that up there with the likes of FM8 if you again take the time to learn it.
People say that the sound isn't "pro" First off how can a sound be "pro". It renders to wav and mp3 with all the same spects as any other DAW. The reason people say that you can't get pro sounding mixes is because A) they don't know how to do it and b) they bought into some BS that someone told them.
Fl doesn't color there mixes like other DAWs. Some of them like to boost the high just a little to give it a nicer sound. Fl leaves it flat for you. Meaning you have to do it yourself.

Re: FL?
Every daw was written/coded differently, therefore each audio engine is different. Even if it renders to the same formats, each daw will process these differently...nothingno wrote:FL is as good as any other DAW. Its not the tools its the person behind them. Edit: and i have never heard of a daw purposely adding high end. thats just madness. sounds like you have baught into some bs..

yeah fair enough...now that I read it again while sober I noticed that I formulated it wrong.
I was just trying to say that it's got everything that all the other DAWs have as well
no harm taken

Re: FL?
Never felt the need to look at any other software as I've never felt limited by it. It's great for beginners cuz you can literally start putting tunes together straight away, but even after years of using it I'm still finding loads of new things/techniques I've never used before. I think the old stigma attached to it is slowly fading, but who gives a fuck anyway!
