ok now! THAT is what im talking about. This is how dubstep should sound, nice and distorted.

This is the kind of dubstep I got into 2 years ago. I want more like THIS!

cut out this happy crap!
this is a track me and my partner play out, distance is awesome. i said it in my first post on this topic and im gonna say it again,,,, if you want to combine styles (of any genre) its all about doing it tastefully. let me give you three examples from the past when rock was combined with hip hop and you tell me which one is the best? limp bizkit - any song, rage against the machine - any song or outkast - hey ya :?:

and i cosign on 'cut out this happy crap' haha

anyone came from a metal background on here, i sang, lol, in two deathcore bands for about 4 years in total and done quite well, but none of the scene crap, proper death core like old all shall perish. dont plan on using any of my vocals in a tune, unless people wanna hear it.

well ABRB is maybe not the best live band, but they do tend to destroy on stage..
as for 'old all shall perish' - is there such a thing? they got like 3 albums :)
not that the first one wasnt the absolute best one tho.

decree, that death pig shit is relentless ! and levelshifter seems to like it too hehe

i play drums in a deathcore band (again, not scene nonsense, they where before i joined but i made em sort it out) and always thought about making some dubstep/metal/hardcore cross over type tunes but never got on it... might start making some with a friend at his gaff coz he has a pretty sweet setup and is into industrial and stuff like between the buried and me, sikth and mudvayne and i recently got him into dubstep, i just need to get on with it really and make some filthy beatdown dubstep

interesting... i know this thread is kinda old, but i found it doing a search for "metalstep" cuz i was curious to see who else had thought of that. a while back i made a sorta gothy circus dubstep track with black / death metal vox. if anyone wants to check it out i would be interested to hear some general thoughts. it's actually the first straight dubstep influenced track i made.

On the metal tip -

Austrasian Goat is very cool, and comes closer than many other metal acts to approaching the some of the aesthetics of dubstep.

Instead of adding to the flames, ill throw in my three cents.

LEGION OF TWO

http://www.myspace.com/thelegionoftwo

I can't believe no one mentioned these guys in my opinion the most successful merger of metal and dubstep and the correct direction if deathstep titanstep metalstep dickstep or what ever you want to call it is going to mature into a disturbed yet healthy child.

This is a topic that has gone through my mind for years. Metal was the first music I listened too since like 6th grade. Yknow some butt rock then heavier stuff like Pantera and Slayer and whatnot. Then I went all the way and was immersed in the metal scene, living, breathing, being. You know how it goes, it can happen to anyone, in any genre of music, you get submersed. Been in death/black/grind you name it ive enjoyed it to the fullest.

Some of my good buddies were ravers and told me "ah man, dude, you would love jungle and drum and bass man! Its all heavy and dark and shit!!". And what do you know, HOLY SHIT! I made an instant connection to the heavy jungle and dnb sound. What caught me were breakdowns. Half steppin bass manglin reese pounders. Feels like I was in the pit at a metal show. Instantly, hooked.

Musical tastes can change as fast as the music progresses. I got into dubstep cuz it had all i needed, heavy, breakdowns, heavy! And this wasnt even "metalstep" or "deathstep", it was like some one said before, Distance. Then it started getting heavier. I heard 16Bit and fucking shit myself, I though that my dreams had come true. And you know what, no matter how you slice it, you can combine a million different influences into there and its still gonna be dubstep.

It doesnt matter if you dont like this flavor of dubstep, hell you dont even have to call it dubstep. But if it wasnt for people thinking outside of the box, wed have a pretty dull fucking scene. Uk kids might see things differently to a person over here in the states, we have TONS of heavy shit coming out, up to our fucking nuts in heavy dubs. People like it, it gets played.

i guess what this pointless rant is about is, well goddamnit shouldnt have smoked that bowl after the first couple sentences. Take what you will!

Oh yeah, dude make metalstep, make deathstep and grindstep and gorestep and thrashstep, ill support, there are always people who can appreciate anything as long as you can perceive that positive energy has been put forth.

Regards,
9FT

I used to be in a hardcoremetal/electronic type band a few years back and have been thinking about this since i started dubstep (http://www.myspace.com/freedomfromzombies in case you wanted to check it out)

eventually i started working on one but it just wasnt working out. This is the loop with a few hours of work put in

i stopped because the drums were just that loop. guitar is an old epiphone les paul through an old line 6 amp with old strings, so the guitar tone needs work, but the idea is there.

Fucking lovely! I'd be careful in taking it too metal though, minus the two instances of 'dubstep bass' it's almost a metal breakdown. Got serious potential though!
