BBC2 Jungle Documentary from 1994
Sorry if this has already been posted. It's a really good doc. Also interesting to see the parallels with dubstep...

Re: BBC2 Jungle Documentary from 1994
nice find!
enjoyed watching this..
I was defnintely drawn to the power of jungle in the 90s.
Addictive basslines, trippy synths, ingenious samples, and that amen break that rolled on forever...
not to say that I don't enjoy tunes from the new heads making dnb at the moment, but dubstep definitely brings out the space and soul in brokenbeat music.
Slow down the tempo, bring out the space, evolution.

Woah really enjoyed watching this, it seems like such a shame that i missed out on this scene, although being only 3 at the time of this TV documentary meant i was kinda limited
Actually, thinking about it could anyone recommend me some good ways on how to get into the sound, must own records, mixes etc... thanks

Few good mixes and what not, old mixtapes too. Get a few 'best of jungle' or 'essential jungle' compilations or whatever they're called lol. Just search around, I'm in the same boat as you really I'm 18 now wish I was born 10/15 years earlier to be at raving age when Jungle really got big. So much more going for it than most current D'n'B, makes no sense to me that this has resided into a sort of underground faction of D'n'B, not the other way round.

Re: BBC2 Jungle Documentary from 1994
anyone current producing old school influenced jungle?
Re: BBC2 Jungle Documentary from 1994
check discogs for 1994 era jungle....loads of it on there...if you are new to it you can check some of the big dnb labels like RAM, Ganja Crew, Metalheadz, Moving Shadow etc etc for their back cat from that era
Congo Natty, Kemet Crew, Remarc, Back 2 Basics, More Rockers, Dream Team, Marvellous Cain are good artists to check out..then just dig deeper to find more gold...Cool Hand Flex, Randall...this list goes on....def check golden era jungle too

How fucking cool was it to see Shy FX prepping classics and dancing in his bedroom then putting it down in the studio!? Some real talk in this too... again, thanks

When it comes to records, anything by congo natty, early shy fx, Ray Keith.Luke Yeah? wrote:Woah really enjoyed watching this, it seems like such a shame that i missed out on this scene, although being only 3 at the time of this TV documentary meant i was kinda limitedActually, thinking about it could anyone recommend me some good ways on how to get into the sound, must own records, mixes etc... thanks

Re: BBC2 Jungle Documentary from 1994
for old school influenced jungle, you gotta get at Serum, Ray Keith, bladerunner and anyone else on the whole dread recordings access - there's a definite revival going on, did anyone catch Jungle Music by logistics when it dropped a few months ago? i've been dropping that in my D&B sets and teasing in valley of the shadows - kids brukking out who aren't as old as the tune itself, mental!
