Online magazine I AM A LASER and Los Angeles events team The Service Company (Destroy LA) have teamed up to create a new night of future culture celebration. I AM A LASER is a post-Downtown LA Art Walk event at the swank Club Nokia Mezzanine Bar that brings together wanderers, live painting and visual arts, and copious amounts of bass heavy glitch, dubstep, electro, urban hip hop, indie and gypsy. I AM A LASER is about cutting-edge exploration and expression, no matter what community you call home.

Coinciding with the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk and picking up where the evening hours end, I AM A LASER is a showcase of fresh electronic beats, live artwork and an eclectic mix of wanderers from the LA area, yourself included. A perfect nightcap to the city’s Art Walk, I AM A LASER brings people together under an umbrella of gritty beats in a Blade-Runneresque environment, a slick and swanky setting for the fine future sound whose many miscreant children run amok in our fair city, beats flung out to the far reaches of mindspace and beyond.

Held at the upstairs Mezzanine Bar of Club Nokia, the second installment of I AM A LASER takes place Thursday, December 10 and features the big bass chops of Deru and Ana Sia, two pioneering producers at the forefront of the West Coast Future Sound Movement.

Deru is Benjamin Wynn, an electronic music producer from Los Angeles. His music is best described as an amalgamation of hip-hop, electronica and IDM. Deru resides in LA where he composes music for television, film, dance and performance art, most recently collaborating on a dance score for the Paris Opera Ballet with classical composer Joby Talbot in 2008, and like his other releases, this piece embodies a synergy and culmination of various musical influences.

Ana Sia hails from San Francisco and her energetic delivery of brain-fazing beats has earned the Princess Slay-ah an important place in Left Coast Lean. Masterfully blending a wide spectrum of rhythms with a beautiful fluidity and a delicate sensibility, Ana Sia giving the dance floor a delightful ride that ends at the corner of bliss and oblivion. Uniting the best elements of dirty dubstep, grimy glitch, and her personalized blend of “global slut psy-hop,” Ana Sia’s sets confirm crunk status of all who dare enter into her seamless world of sound.

Also on the lineup: L. Croskey, respected creator and curator in the LA underground arts scene, and doing live painting will be Michael Pukac of Think Space Gallery and from Cannibal Flower, John Park.

Entrance to I AM A LASER is free before 10PM or for $5 entry all night, just RSVP at rsvp@iamalaser.com with your full name and those of your friends coming with you. With no RSVP the cover is $10; this event is 21+. Club Nokia is located in downtown Los Angeles at 800 W. Olympic Street; enter on Figueroa Street across from the Holiday Inn. Click here for parking information; and there are several $5 lots and garages are in the area.
