And previewing is instantaneous for you? I'm trying to figure out why I seem to be the only one who has this problem...but it's definitely been mentioned on the Steinberg forums as well. It always takes a second to audition the file, and I'm pretty sure it's because it's loading a waveform. It might be the fact that I'm using it on a laptop, which has a slower hard drive, but it's brand new and I feel like it wouldn't matter with such a simple task, especially since it works fine in 4.1...
Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
No, its not instantaneous by any means. It seems like it wants to synch the playback with the seq, even if you try to turn it off. Also plays sample to the end unless you hit stop. It'll even switch samples, but play from the prior position in the previous position.
Just generally, it's crappy.
EDIT - Holy christ was i tiered when I wrote this
basically no, it sucks.

I was told u can't do this.martello wrote:Yep!Pedro Sánchez wrote:Educational versions are no different to full retail versions the dongle just reads your serial as Cubase 5, the only difference is the pos price from what I have found so far.random access wrote:hi there, i need to know what happens with upgrades when you have the educational version of cubase?
for example: if i get cubase 5 full educational version, and the next version comes out (cubase 6 maybe) do i still get the discount that the non educational buyers get?
thanks in advance
I had Cubase 4 EDU and I upgraded to Cubase 5 Full as usual Cubase 4 Full user.

Re: cubase educational question
welcome to steinberg tech support almost as horrid as digi design or m-audio (same company)nowaysj wrote:I was told u can't do this.martello wrote:Yep!Pedro Sánchez wrote:Educational versions are no different to full retail versions the dongle just reads your serial as Cubase 5, the only difference is the pos price from what I have found so far.random access wrote:hi there, i need to know what happens with upgrades when you have the educational version of cubase?

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
What is your spec? because when I audition full 2-3 min acapellas (mp3 or wav) the previewing is instantaneous or half a second when in 'play in context mode'. I'm using Cubase Studio 5.0 with the 5.1 update patch.nowaysj wrote:No, its not instantaneous by any means. It seems like it wants to synch the playback with the seq, even if you try to turn it off. Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
Actually thinking about it, there is a difference between the Cubase 5 and Cubase Studio 5 mediabay because of all the enhanced tag editing features Cubase 5 offers that Cubase Studio 5 doesn't.nowaysj wrote:Full version 5.1 with a dedicated and largely empty 7200 rpm hd.
Here is what I did anyway, it might help:
I only scanned the folders in mediabay that I know have content in them (I done my scanning before I loaded a session, just start cubase and press F5). I left all the other boxes unchecked. You know when it's completely done because all your folder icons in the browser panel are light blue. Then using the filter icons at the top of mediabay I have F5 (Mediabay) finding everything, F6 (Loop Browser) finding just Audio and Midi Loops and F7 (Sound Browser) finding presets. I didn't however have it scanning my folder where i keep all my sessions because as you are adding and editing audio, this folder is continuously getting updated and mediabay would have to index it and update it's cache file every time it opens so it would be like doing a rescan every few seconds.
I even tried my cubase at the weekend on windows 7 and mediabay works just as well but win 7 has ASIO driver issues atm which made cubase pretty much unusable anyway, thats what is pissing me off at present.

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
How do I get Cubase to scan for newly installed plugs??
Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
if the program doesn't find them upon startup, you have probably put them in the wrong location
open "plug in information" and add a new location and find where you stuck them
and if that doesn't work you can always press F1 and search the help file / manual

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
It worked on restart, awesome! I love how intuitive this DAW is, sets everything up for me automatically.
Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
Anyone know how to use MIDI Learn in Cubase SX3?
I can play notes on a synth via my MIDI keyboard, but I can't figure out how to assign a knob to LFO rate, for example. It's killing me

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
Ello guys.
Just a quick one..
Im using the Virus TI intergrated Cubase 5 (im sure this is relevant to any outboard hardware etc).
Basicly i can't edit the values on any automation on the instrument channel. I can draw in shapes etc but i can't edit the actual values of each point, just the positioning. I can also write in automation with real-time but obviously i can't be exact with that..
Any thoughts?

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
zoom in on your lane and as you are drawing in the points on the channel it should show the value to the left on the lane you are automatingrhek wrote:Ello guys.

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
Kind of jumping into production, I've used reason and FL, wasnt a big fan of either so kind of gave up on production for a bit, just got cubase 5 about 1 week ago and I've been addicted. Slowly learning how to everything all the sythns, drums adding VST's and such. I love it! I dont know how people can say cubase is too complexed, I actually thought this one was much better laid out and user friendly than FL and reason. give me a couple months to get over the learning curve and figure out exactly how to get the sounds I want and hopefully you'll be hearing big tings!
Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
Could someone take a screenshot of the setup used to split a bass into seperate frequency bands?
Also, is there a Low/High Cut VST like the one in Logic? That completely cuts all signal under/over the frequency? I want to use one for cutting exactly instead of having frequencies bleeding.

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
I'm using some freeware ones. link - http://gersic.com/static.php?page=static051212-220639
One other quick question. In a lot of producer videos their OPEN box for samples has a play/preview button underneath the open/cancel button, I don't have this. How can that be enabled? Is it only for importing raw audio or can it be enabled for use in my sampler (another freeware, brings up an open box like usual).

Re: The Cubase Q&A Thread
all you need is a high pass, bandpass filter, and a lowpass filtermmjdw wrote:I'm using some freeware ones. link - http://gersic.com/static.php?page=static051212-220639
i'll try to type out the steps for you since it'll be quicker than screenshots etc
1.) create 3 group busses label each on accordingly for ease of use (low, mid, high) make sure the low is a mono channel
2.) on you bass sounds audio output channel set the sends to each group buss with pre-fader send
3.) bring the level on the main bass sound audio output to 0
4.) now on each of the send channels insert the filters accordingly
5.) process each to hearts content with fx chain
6.) you can add a 4th group buss to send these to to compress etc and gel together if you want
7.) ???
8.) profit
