Free software Q. AU RTAS or VST?
I just downloaded Reaper to check it out, been on Reason for the last while. Anyway I am totally new to the plug in world and I am a little lost.
I am on a macbook, so should I be getting AU plugs? Does it even matter if I get VST or RTAS plugs?
I've started to download some free plugs to get my self going, but thought I would ask around here first before I get a bunch of crap I will never use.
While I'm at it can someone recommend a few good free synth and bass plugs? Something based on analog gear or similar to Reasons synths would be the easiest for me to learn. I have looked around the stickies for the free software, and I guess thats why I'm trying to find out what is quality and what is on the crappy side.

I tend to grab both VST and AU when I can can, just in case one of them doesn't play nice with my DAW.

Thanks guys.
But cant seem to get the TAL plugs working. Heres what I'm doing. am I missing something?
1. Download Audio Unit version (also tried vst version with same results), Unzip (which turns it into a word for mac icon)
2. Copy it into my components folder
3. Launch Reaper, do a new track with insturment, pick elec7ro plug
4. Reaper tells me it has a build routing error: Could not get channel info for effects (are they multichannel?)
5. The Elec7ro plug opens but when I push the piano keys or use my midi controller there is no sound. I can see it is recieving midi messages. And I can get sound from a different vsti, so what gives?
Isint there any demo songs or anything with Reaper?
