I don't touch it while in the studio, alot of though goes into a tune and I need my mind clear so that I can pick up from where I left off if I don't get it done in 1 session... but thats my opinion

Never produced high, tried producing when I was drunk but it doesn't work. I just get the munchies and then go on youtube or play some games.

drunk works for me... doesn't do anything to my prod. skills or focus, but it alters my thought process and makes it meander... which makes for weirded out tracks. then listening to 'em back sober is like hearing a whole new song :o

if i've got weed, i can go the whole day, plus it makes it easier to initially sit down and make music..
That is like me but it is scaled down a bit. When I work on tunes sober I work for a half hour or so then check my facebook and chat on aim and download a vst or something. Always multi-tasking. Smoke a bowl and aim gets shut off and my face is on the screen for 3 hours straight, I have to convince myself to quit so I can take a piss. I am getting a lot more decisive with production now tho, it isn't taking me as long as it used to to make a tune.

Anyone want to smoke me down?

Hey, you make it out here to the Left Coast and consider it done. I'll get you so fuckin' high you won't be able to produce anything but a blank look.

But I think it's crucial not to mistake feeling tingly with being inspired, too. Inspiration needs no assistance, period. It just *is* or is not.

What I'm noticing is that [for me] when fiddling with sounds, jamming, and generally experimenting, a little herb is good.

Then when it comes down to arranging, mixing, and finishing/finalizing - an objective and clear head is best.

And when you feel the track is more or less done and you're all through with the major nuts n' bolts of production, listening to it when both very high and then sober gives you a pretty good, balanced perspective on what's really going on in the song.

But then, that's just me. Like I said, everyone's different.
THIS.

took me a couple months of being sober to get that natural motivation back, but my productions have improved 10x over since i stopped smoking all day and started eating healthy. clarity and a healthy lifestyle is where it's at

music is fun when im not high, just WAYYYY more fun when high
Well... Isn't that actually completely subjective?
Its individual "headspace" and mood that dictates this kinda behaviour. I myself are an ex pot smoker, and i actually felt "clouded" and distracted when i made chunes under the influence. Now that im not smoking, i feel more passionate, and focused than ever. So one mans love is another mans hate... etc... swings and roundabouts...

interesting choice. i know id be passed out with my head on a drum machine or something. haha

never had a problem finding motivation to work on tunes high or sober. i find it hard to focus on much else when im high though. i should to be applying for jobs cuz im getting layed off and i just make tunes instead, which aint exactly putting food on the table. but i digress.

to the folks who cant get motivated after quitting the greenery, been there. its cool to zone out when making tunes but its not necessary. use your mood to make a tune. i know when i quit weeds for a while i went from making some happy sounding high shit to making pissed off aggressive shit cuz thats how i felt at the time.

Doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of difference for me, except that my studio gets covered in ash.

Alcohol though, that stuff is deadly. Whenever I'm pissed in the house I get a massive urge to start producing, and when I do I love it. Come back to listen to it the next day whilst sober and think, "Christ, what was I thinking?". Booze plus studio equals fail for me. I wish it didn't.

Gotta say, I love blazing a fat one in the studio. Before, during and after the tune is done.

Its bad news though, I turned my lappy upside down yesteday and shook it and about an ounce of ash, bud and little bits of baccy fell out

Just remember "all things in moderation"

Wormcode - +1, get all set up then totally forget, or take a little hit, then get sucked in, and forget to actually smoke.

Thing for me now, I don't even get high when I smoke. Any oldtimers experience this? Maybe I'm not hitting the right stuff... Alpha? I'm by no means a pot head, I smoke occasionally, but it's nowhere near where it used to be. I used to get so high I could hear the ocean 10 miles away, so high I could close my eyes and go into a full on all senses hallucination. Now I just get a little squinty and laugh at inappropriate times.

But my experience of music is totally and completely different high v. sober (from memory). Sober I feel the beat, and sort of analyze whatever it is that is making a track interesting, but high, I'm completely afloat, buoyed by the sea of sound. These two experiences are completely different.

In terms of production... soberly listening to stuff I made when stoned, it usually doesn't make that much sense, but then when I hear it blazed, it makes sense again... Like I can only access the logic of the track in that state... kind of sucks.
