start doing the odd local party and see how you go with that ... even if you just get australian guests to kick it off with. flippo's down in brisbane and does mad live sets (double dropping goat stare into a teardrop remix :D). then if you go further afield there's kito, mark pritchard/harmonic 313, spherix (now doing fire ableton sets), paul fraser (aquatic lab/garage pressure), same o & myself, affiks & a13, victim, boot & sook, zerodub (by far the most underrated dubstep dj in aus), droid sector, etc. there's an aussie dubstep contact list on dubstep.com.au if you don't know em already.

good luck if you do decide to do it :)

There's definitely the talent out there , I just moved back from living down in Melbourne , used to play some of the side rooms for the BBA boys , all good friends. Much respect for all the crews in Melbourne , had some great times down there , Loefah at Laundry just around my Birthday will always be a favourite memory ( R.I.P Laundry , started my days in Melbourne at the Spindry nights there , many lost weekends then ) and i've always been impressed at the quality of both the shows and the sound and promotion work put in. That's my issue at the moment , finding a club with sound that can do justice to the music , a bad system just kills a party , but once I sort that , or just bypass them alltogether and do it soundsystem style I think it'll develop nicely , the club nights we did went well when they were actually promoted , i'll keep you all informed and see if we can't do some interstate biz .

heavy heart wrote:All good points , we do get the odd event that manages to spark some interest but it's tough , we are an isolated , small city and I don't think i'm ever going to be able to roll out anything like the capital cities , at least not with a profit involved. But if I can provide some DJ's with a holiday in the tropics , in what is known as the easiest city in Australia to get laid in ( depending on your standards ) and a tropical paradise , and educate a crowd of heads on real bass music then fuck it i'm down. It's all about the quality of the music and the heart of the crew keeping the scene alive and there's not much doubt about either of those , so i'll keep ya posted ...

Good one.

Best of luck and if you get the time do pm myself or email my bro with gig info....

Didn't realise I'd get such an epic response from this post.... great to here about so much stuff happening all around Australia. I'm originally from Perth & Melbourne, but shacked up in London for the next few years and loving it, but I do kinda agree Perth has had/has some great dubstep/dnb and breaks parties but fukin wack systems!
.....
I've just starting up a blog with an emphasis on dubstep/wonky/experimental electronic music from around the globe, if anyone wants to send in links of Australian artist's, promoters or parties they might be affiliated with I'd be happy to consider some stuff for posts about tracks, albums, nights or interviews to spread the word about our home grown talent. Here's the link for the blog http://www.rad-sauce.com and if anyone is interested hit me up at admin@rad-sauce.com.

re: cairns

totally relate to the issues in Cairns having fought for the last couple of years to put on the shockwave dubstep nights in Canberra (pop. 340,000) with my mate skully (crooked sound system). It's hard to get a foot in the door when most if not all of the clubs only support commercial forms of music...but all the hard work does pay off with a strong tight nit scene often joining up with other underground scenes like the dnb, psy trance or hip hop crews...we just had cotti at the last one and it was so good to hear him droppin dubstep in what is usually a jazzy lounge bar...funnily enough the bar manger said it was the best night they have ever had there...so we have learnt that you just have to grab whatever opprtunities you get, do it properly (we always have to supply extra subs if not the whole sound system) and hopefully by exposing new people to new forms of music they can hear the potential that we all here and keep giving us more opportunities...big up all the ozy steppas, promoters, producers and dj's...peace
