Deadly Habit will probably know better than me.

I have seen them for btw $100-$300 USD

About 5 years ago, they were $100. I would have a hard time paying more than $150 myself. Have you checked out the Akaizer plugin? Might hold you over until you find one at the right price.

ok so not too bad pricing.

It's not really for timestretching, although that will be super cool to check out. ill be using it just as a drum-machine, the 8 mono outs for crunchy drums/breaks.

i just sold one mint for £160.
you shouldn't need to pay more than that.
if you just want it for bitcrushing/lo fi stuff a s900 can be got for £40ish!! (no timestretch tho)
they do sound dirty and are simple to get into but are way more hassle and slower to use than any soft sampler.
i kept my s900 to run samples thru before putting back into ableton or fl.

i paid 250 for a mint unit 5 years ago. They definitely have a different vibe from your usual software samplers.

you ask if they are easy to use? depends on what you think is easy. I would say no if your used to software interfaces, you'll be getting mighty friendly with the small 40 some character display it has.

Now if you have real skills, you can make an entire song with just one akai s950. takes some creativity right there to pull that off.
10 years and still learning!
