Post by slowlygoingdeaf » Sat Feb 18, 2006 4:49 pm

title says it all, it would be much appreciated.

problem i have with some mixes is you get radio static here and there, such as hatcha practice hours, or some other distortion (which is NOT meant to be there...!)

definitely, it goes up to 1411kbps, which i think is cd quality, but it might be higher.

most rips are like 128kbps or 190 if youre lucky.

higher bit rate = the louder it can go without distortion, and a lot of frequencies are clipped off in lower quality mp3s.

the noise in practice hours is just well-loved dubplates grinding down a little further. all part of the aural experience IMHO.

yeah im listening to dubstep allstars 2 on cd and i can hear the sound of the dubplates, and the crack of vinyl play. just on practice hours it got out of hand for 5 minutes in the middle - i had to fast forward.

skreams rinse fm set on 14 march 2006 is in 541kbits

No it's not. It's 212kbps VBR (At least the one on Barefiles is). Where did you get 541kbps from?
MP3's don't go higher than 320, other formats like FLAC and WAV go higher.

I'm pretty sure the Excision mix on Barefiles is 320kbps, and there was a 320 version of Grievous Angel's Dubstep Sufferah 2 mix about too. So check them out.

the ridiculous bitrates will probably be windows explorer / windows media player's inability to workout vbr mp3s.

Your talking about wavs at 1411.. not mp3s. Take your mix, convert it to wav, make it loud.... simple answer really aint it?

Also remember anyone can save as 128mp3, then later convert to 320 to appear better quality when in fact it aint.

What I'm trying to do with Barefiles is keep everything under 192, file size and so no pricks rip tracks out and mix them.

And of course, it's a 320 for your pleasure.

cant remember where i downloaded it from. it was either a direct link here or on barefiles.

if mp3s are encoded with LAME they cant go 320+, i think up to 640kbits

thanks for the recommendations.

my fault, youre right about me confusing wavs and mp3s. any mixes that are of a high bit rate, whether vbr, wav, mp3, whatever, would be welcome! but wouldnt converting it to wav and then playing it loud also distort like the original mp3?

true about your last point too.

Yeah, the WAV would sound just as distorted etc. That's why transcoding stuff is completely retarded, especially to WAV. Anything off Rinse is transmitted at about 96kbps (around there anyway, there was a topic about it ages ago, you might find it with a cunning search), so there's no point getting really high quality MP3's of them.

Any mixes recorded straight to a computer then converted to a decent VBR should sound fine. If the quality still isn't good enough, that's what the Dubstep Allstars / Tectonic Plates / etc CD's are for.
