LODUBS 2010
LODUBS 2010
2009 was everything we had hoped it would be. Clubroot. Starkbass. A slew of 12"s, all varied, all evocative, in both a Cerebral and dancehall context. Given how this decade, and its future-footnote status as the one that nearly crushed groundbreaking electronic music, came to a head with the economic tumult of 2009, we felt at many moments as if all of the progress was somehow snatched from destiny, as Boyd Rice once said.
Our purpose, and intent, now that the major advances of 2009 are subscribed to realitiy, is to be compounded in 2010. This year will bring:
*A new Clubroot full length (March/April),
*three new 12"s from DJG, El Rakkas (remixed by LV & XI), and Ebola featuring the French female MC duo Face A Face, just in the first two months of the new decade,
*Following in the pattern of breaking new artists with their first 12" in this sound, which to date has included such lumineries as 6BLOCC, Cardopusher, Mensah, O-Dessa, XI, South3rn, Pacheko, and El Rakkas, we will add the follwing names to the Cannon: Meesha, MNUVR, Pocz, Phased Entity, and Dirges (AKA Brian Zentz).
*As we are still staunch believers that a record label must release physical artifacts, we are preparing to alter our release formats and schedule as follows: Every LoDubs 12" from the first release of the new decade onwards will include a compact disc, containing fully mastered, wav quality uncompressed digital audio for the initial pressing of the release, packaged in our patented Vinyl Plus sleeve (http://www.myspace.com/vinylplusrecordsleeves). We will then do a digital release, but not for 4 to 6 weeks after the 12" version. We believe labels that release the digital at the same time as the physical format are in a sense working against the vinyl version, so it is still our stance to represent an alternative to this approach, and through this application, we will do it in a far better way than ever applied in electronic music before. We hope others follow our example.
Furthermore, as we move forward, and start planning the digital side of these releases, many will contain hidden bonuses, like extra tracks, alternate mixes, secret folders, etc.
2010 will be an interesting year for the sound. We expect many of the forces involved wil pull it in a multitude of directions, with both positive and of more questionable ramifications. Our path will surely both deviate and cross this unwritten thread of history, but just as with what was forseen, and ultimately what ended up being subscribed to history with regards to 2009, with feel our path is clear.
