Why Reverb !!!!!!!!!! It's a pretty basic topic TBH I'd prefer delays much more difficult to get correct the common mistakes people make & tips tricks etc to getting it right Also as previously mentioned breakdowns would be handy

would really like to see another in depth drum tutorial from you explaining how to get heavily syncopated rolling drums that having many sounding hits so it almost confuses you to try and listen and mentally disect the pattern, but still flow incredibly well.

and also another tutorial on how to do compressing / limiting properly and how they can make your shit sound fatter !

:)

cheers

dude u should write some tuts too b/c you're tutored and very knowledgeable im self taught and can only explain stuff that related to the music i produce :)
I am writing some tutorials actually, but I can't release them until they are solidly presented etc....

Everything I know has been learnt from books, magazines, forums and countless weeks of hands on experimentation..!! I've never had any tutoring in my life! :)

----------------

Why not make a vid about the hoover bass to complement your wobble and reese guides?

That is very easy. Sample a Chase & Status tune...

im just going to cover fruity and production / synth techniques i think b/c i know it well

I understand synth programming backwards. That has come from reading and hands on practice.

My knowledge of real mastering processes is both limited and flawed. It's easy to regurgitate what I read elsewhere haha

Macc and Sharmaji are the main two walking encyclopedias on DSF, although a few others come out of the woodwork occassionally. :)

Your fake delay vid is good, but calling it a fake reverb is misleading to me. A more accurate result comes from the old comb filter trick. Load up a comb filter and set the delay to minimum, resonance to maximum... Fake reverb! ;)

That in video form would be food for thought for your current subscribers no doubt! :)

I'm not sure if this is the correct term but, could you do one on silent sidechaining?

My mate was trying to explain it me. As far as I understand it involves sending a muted signal to open and close the gate but I think I might be missing some information on this

Do you know what I'm on about?

'nother way to get 'fake' reverb, especially on live-recorded stuff-- set a compressor super fast (both attack and release), and get the ratio up really high and the threshold down pretty low-- you'll kill the actual note being played, and just leave the decay. try it in parallel.

you need a super-aggro compressor for this; in softwareland, the 1176 or stillwell rockit are the best i've found.

never tried this but thanks for the tip dude will def give it a go :) i wonder if you could do it with the fruity standard compressor

yeah i suppose it should be fake delay as reverb deals with room size and acoustics, swings and roundabouts tho :D

@matrix props for the comment dude ;) will try n get some more done soon ;)

@drokkr i can side chain but havnt tried linking it to a gate usually use the fruity vol controller to punch beats through blines/leads

I can sidechain too, I thought you might have known something on the muted signal side of it... ah well. Better get my mate to spell it more more clearly to me...

do you mean the fly lo kind of sound? you can sidechain your synth (or whatever) to your kick drum and then bounce, delete the kick line and you're left with your sound ducking under the drums that are no longer there. you can have a kick designed purely to trigger the compression, which may not follow a standard drum pattern at all, and then introduce your normal drums but have the compressor follow the absent previous kicks.

or, just sidechain to a disabled track used purely to control the compressor?

depending on your comp settings you can get a lot of movement, especially combined with other effects, out of a pretty standard (or even a cheap one-note) bassline.
