Assigning nobs and faders

Whats up peeps. I have just started producing dubstep and have noticed it involves a lot of lfo basslines. In most of the the tracks I've listened to the lfo rate changes every 4 bars or so. I know the people producing these tracks ain't creating 4 different vsti with different lfo rates(wobble 4 those who dont know)they have some how assigned a nob or a fader on the keyboard to automate the rate of which it changes, if anyone knows please fill me in. Im using albino 3 with nuendo 3 rewired with reason 4. thanks

There are several ways of achieving the same thing.

As you pointed out, one could just have the same patch loaded on multiple instances of your synth, each with a different LFO rate.

Or you can use the sequencers automation to make changes to the LFO rate.

Or you can use an LFO on the synth itself to change the LFO rate.

Finally, you can assign the LFO rate control to an external midi controller and change the rate by hand.

How you go about doing this depends on the sytem you're using.

In Reason, you can simply rightclick on the control you wish to automate and click on 'edit automation'. this creates automation lane on the arrange page (sequencer).

I don't recall how it is done in Cubendo, nedless to say that the built in help file/manual should explain how to do it (in the automation section)

Assigning midi control to a parameter on your synth depends again on the synth itself. Read Albinos manual for info on how it handles midi assignment.

If you use a second LFO to modulate the rate of the first LFO, all you need to do is set up the connection between the two LFO's. In Reason, this is done by routing a CV wire fromt he Mod/LFO output of a synth like Malstrom to the rlavant control on a Combinator which in turn is assigned to the LFO rate on the synth you're using.

On Albino, you need to use the mod matrix to assign your LFO soure (on the lfet column) to the destination parameter (assigned in the right ahdn column). The middle column allows you to define the depth of the modulation as a percentage.

dude, just go into arrangement mode, open up the track you want, and click on the devices lfo rate, couldn't be simpler...

ya know, LFO's aren't the only way to make wobbles,
just like automating the LFO rate, you could just as easily automate the cutoff freq. itself (and have it do way crazier things than just a sine wave!)
or any other parameter you feel would sound good

just like automating the LFO rate, you could just as easily automate the cutoff freq. itself (and have it do way crazier things than just a sine wave!)
or any other parameter you feel would sound good

or you could assign the lfo to the cutoff and then automate the frequency to get it really moving about!
