Just heard 1000 yard stare and really liked it. Loved what you did with the sort of whispering throughout, really made the track and the drums kept the head nodding throughout.
You said on your myspace how you want to make more ambient stuff which I could definitely tell from this tune and it works.
This may sound a bit n00b but there wasnt enough bass for me to call it a dubstep track, it may just be my headphones, but as a dubstep track I was expecting more bass- just my opinion.
Overall though great song and good production values with levels and quality of sounds.
Nice one for the feedback bruv. Thanks for taking the time to listen and Im glad you liked it
Yeah, Im feeling what you are saying about the bass. It on a very low frequency. I cant really hear it in my phones either. Knell said the same so maybe I should just nudge it up to 90hz (currently sitting at 75hz) to make it easier to hear on phones etc. Thanks man, gonna take that on board
Peace
The Shadow - "Nuclear Winter"
ROLLER!!

This is just my cup of tea:
Props:
-The drums in the intro and breakdowns are, quite simply, pure evil. Loved em. Are they different sounds from the main drums or the main drums just processed to fuckery? I would love to know how you did it dude. Sounds like you might have some reverb on the kick as well, which is pretty unusual but works brilantly here.
- The kicks and snares have a nice minimal feel to them. Which coupled with the rolling hats gives the whole drum track an irresistable rolling quality. Keeps the heads nodding till the end
-1st drop is killer. Loved the way the bass kicks in and adds even more of a rolling vibe to the track.
-The high pitched synth stabs that occur throughout add a definate wintery, cold vibe (which was obviously your intention) and contrasts well with the rolling bass.
Advice:
-Vocal sample needs to be a bit higher up in the mix. Also it seemed to be quite dead centre, so maybe some verb as well to fill it out. It is a good quality sample and fits the vibe well so its a bit of a shame to have it so quiet. Also you could get away with having it appear more often in the track, like I said, it fits well and is a good quality sample so as long as its not every two bars or whatever it wont get monotonous.
-Bass sound was a little too clean for me. Some distortion to add some more warmth and it will be spot on.
-The hats roll @2:15 just before the 2nd drop could have been longer by a good four bars. The whole thing is over too quick for me.
-Needs more panning and reverb on the hats. Again they sound pretty central to me. Some panning and verb would fill out the track and give it a more spacious feel.
Overall:
Cant stop playing it tbh. Some excellent drum programming coupled with some equally good musicianship on the bass and high end synths make this a superb icey roller! A little bit of tweaking with the vocal and hats would just add the cherry on top of the cake. Good choice of vocal sample as well.
Cant wait to hear more
