This happened to me about a month ago. I almost cried as i had 2 tunes almost finished and lost them forever along with a lot of samples, edited breaks, presets, and other shit I can never have again.

external hard drives are pretty cheap now a days and is worth a lot more to me then $100 to have all of my samples, vst's, program set ups and project backed up.
From time to time I do enjoy the feeling of a fresh start and make myself go about working differently

i honestly can't figure out what happened. my computer got extremely slow within probably a week. after i realized it wouldnt even let me back it up i took it to a pro computer dude who is luckily a friend of mine...he said it all lead back to the hard drive but couldnt pinpoint it. i found a nice 320gb for like 45 bucks so picked that up....gettin XP instead of vista tomorrow and re installing ableton...in theory, i should be good to go
i need a smilie for a little praying dude

dropbox is awesome for sharing files with ease but it won't do much good as file storage, you only get 2 gb free.

keep hearing horror stories about HDs fucking up recently, i think i better have another backup session, I only have my older tracks that I don't care too much about backed up.
a good thing i can think of starting fresh is that a lot of bits that you never used but held onto are out the way and also I think maybe could be a change in direction maybe, thats what i found when this happened to me a while ago.
