Hey!

intro-0.27 It sounds really grimey, would be a good opening for a grime traack but it doesn'y grab your attention as a dubstep listener..if ya get me? It needs BARS
.27 - 1.10 Same again, theres nothing there to reallygrab the listeneres attention
1.25 - 1.38 Good little build Up
1.45 - 3.36 Nice little riff at the start but you kept i goin too long, need to throw in a few more accidentals and change it up a bit to keep it fresh!
3.59 - 5.30 Same as above!

overall... The synths and everything are good and theres some nice melodies in there but the track doesn't really grab your attention...it kind of drags on?

Not bad though. But a few things could be done to spice it up.

Okay, Ive been a bit slack on the reviewing front of late....... But Ive got some time now (and a bag of green  ) so lets get some shit done :)

Vampire tna - Mean Parade.

Props:
-Wicked bottom end from the start! Really fills the ears and lets you know that this isnt going to be a chillout track!
- @15 sec the bass synth that comes in is superb. Gritty and melodic at the same time.
- The ontro grabs you from the off with the (sounds like a synth glockenspeil or something) wierd mellow synth.
-@55 sec the layering of the two synths really takes the tune up a gear.
- Kicks and snares rock throughout. Fairly standard dubstep fare but nothing wrong with using what works! :)
-@3:00 HUGE DROP! You saved the best one for last. Always a good idea.
-@1:51 the little mini drop adds a nice stop start groove to the last section.
- Hats are nicely shuffled throughout. They add lots of groove.

Advice:
-The sounds that make up the intro are so well chosen that the whole thing could be twice as long in my book. Building some anticipation at this stage in the tune would only make your first drop all the stronger.
- Slightly too much reverb on the snare. The snare almost sounds like its just made from white noise. Thats cool if thats the effect you are going for, but with a straight dancefloor track like this I would layer another snare to give it some more body. Maybe one cut out of an Amen loop for that authentic woody sounding "smack".
- Hats could do with being a tiny bit louder and have a touch more reverb.
-@2:47 when it goes into a breakdown, I would cut out the wobble bass altogether this would help beef up the superb final drop even more.
- Maybe a vocal sample to add some variation. People love things like vocal snippets in dancefloor tracks. It gives them smoething to grab hold of and gives the tune a more memorable quality.
-The outro could be longer. I would make it at least 16 bars. This is because some of the younger dj boys  are a bit slow to mix out of their tracks so you gotta give them at least 16 bars or they might not play it for fear of shit bagging the mix at end (yes some people are actually THAT fickle). Same goes for the intro.

Overall:
This one has the makings of a fucking BANGER. A few tweaks to make it big system and dj friendly and I ,for one, would love to play this out. Soild sub and midrange coupled with hard but still groove laden drums make this a powerful dancefloor track. Good things to come from Vampire tna! :w:

Since JFK tackled the second one, ill do this 'un. i like how some people are sitting in church... im online on dubstepforum writing reviews

VampireTNA - "Badass Rasta"

props:
+as this was starting up, i was like "i bet he starts this with a rasta sample" haha..
+that bass is tasty!! quite original, sounds like live scratching almost, then goes to wubberz
+(2:00) this part is intense!! definitely the point where people would go crazy, almost as if the rest of the song is a warmup
+(2:55) putting the rising part of the oscillation on the off-beat really gives it a true rasta feeling. TOP NOTCH ... if you did this on purpose, big up, if you did it because it "felt right" then you have authentic natural skill
+really groovin! rasta but borderlines an electro feel, i personally couldnt ask for more

advice:
-its almost as if that bass pans into nonexistence at some points
-when turned up, the resonance on some of the scratch wubz is a little piercing at times
-(2:00)... maybe a measure or two more buildup. you really wanna smash this part, its gonna make the song
-maybe a *touch* more bump to your kick drum, if you want to give it a dancier vibe... keep the dry clicky drum if you want it to lean more towards the reggae/rasta side of genres
-maybe a break or half time feel at some point would be a lovely surprise

overall:
=really quite good! i've listened to a lot of dubstep and this is my first encounter with a wub bass that sounds like live scratching... i totally dig it!!! a little 'looped' sounding, but the intense parts are GOLD... big big up..!

Not sure what in my intoxicated disclosure made you think i'd be good for a review, but you're right!!

Max4Beats - "Evacuate the ER"

props:
+nice flow and melody line
+builds nicely into the drum drop
+(0:47) that ambient synth is a nice touch
+great variety in noizemakerz
+that liquid bass with the high resonance is not my favorite sound, but you killed it!! well done
+(2:05) this little breakdown... very nice fx/filtering going on here, great build

advice:
-intro synth may want to be altered a tad... that main synth makes it kinda sound like one of those cheesy songs they rinse at American sporting events.. good, but brings back annoying memories
-the sound at (1:12) and other places... could be a little better placed, usually with low-high at the end of a measure... just a suggestion
-needs a strong crash, a whomping sub bass and some high end build to make your drops punch a little more

overall:
=really cant find too much to complain about with this one!!! well done on making the liquid synth less than annoying, and your production/panning is superior. well done! after the drops are a little stronger you're finished, the flow is spot on!!

a little 'looped' sounding

:w: :w:
Someone wrote about the offbeat rise: "the bass sounds like train-wrecking with the drums". I answered: "Yeap, doesn't that make you want to stick your hands in your ears to make it "right" ? "

My thoughts pan into nonexistence after a few puffs also

yeah, i know it sounds "looped" :( This the only track in which i recorded my own synths and used the wavs for further editing. I won't do it again. I promise! :E:

alright, alright... sheesh, no need to yell...

just kidding, you know i gots much love for ya JayEffKay

JFK - "Somewhere Out There"

props:
+drum drop is silky!!
+reversed crash (or a hsarc as i like to call em) followed by the crash is well done
+samples are dreamzzzzY!
+record grain gives it a super vibe
+"maybe he's gone"... "underground"

advice:
-the intro, before the drum drop, sounds awkward and off beat to me, but this isnt my style of music so if thats the point i may just be silly and pointing out the obvious
-really hard to critique because im unsure as to whether or not you did some things on purpose or not
-drags a bit for me, think the drums should pick up and glitch out more towards the end
-"move" sounding sample might want to be spread out a little more

overall:
=sorry i cant really give great advice, as i have very little experience with this genre (i dont like Burial... shoot me)... all i can really say is that i enjoyed it!!! quite dreamy, but drags a bit for me.. maybe someone with a better knowledge of this style could give a better review? help mista JFK out!!!

i do what i can.. :w:

 Thanks for the feedback bruv (you really dont like Burial? :( ) Glad you enjoyed it. I checked out your myspace so let me return the favour: Ps - Is that you in the picture for TimeToRUN? If so you look just like my mate Mikey The Pikey :) He makes Breakcore.... he is a strange man.......... anyway:

Knell - TimeToRUN.

Props:
+Synth in the intro is Very crisp and grabs your attention straight away.
+Classic siren sound reminds me of warehouse parties and being 18 and free and...............ahem.
+Kicks are HUGE they sound like 20 different kicks layered together. Really good Eqing and sample selection here.
+Reese bass sound is another nice old school touch. The whole tune has a very Drum and Bass feel to it and along with the siren this bass line brings a smile to the face of an old raver like me :D
+Nice choice of vocal sample. Not over used in the track so it doesnt get boring.
+@30 sec nice mini breakdown that adds 200 tons to the drop :e:
+@1:04 Nice swirling breakdown with pads and synths and nicely placed "Zap" fx. Important to give the crowd a chance to have a breather with tunes like this :)
+Hats sit well in the mix and add plenty of shuffle and groove. Nicely panned.
+@1:35 HUGE DROP. That would have any dancefloor on the planet on its knees (not literally).
+Bassline is one of the most creative I have heard in a long time. You clearly have good knowledge of layering waveforms and resampling. The bass reminds me of the Noisia track "Diplodocus". Huge, grimey AND melodic.
+Excellent balance of tones in the fx used.
+Beautiful clear mix. Especially nice is the way the sub and Kicks work so well together. Neither one swamps the other giving the result of a massive, full bottom end that would rock any big rig.

Advice:
-Slightly more reverb on the vocal sample. Bit too thin sounding for me.
-The snare could do with being a bit louder for me. With its frequencies peaking at about 200 - 220hz to cut through the mix. Perhaps layering another snare sample underneath would add more wieght.
-Some of the highs, in particular the looped siren at the end, grate a little after a while. Maybe rolling off the very highest ones would help.

Overall:
HUGE TUNE. Nicely combines old and new school bass line and fx elements with modern day drum progamming and production values. Some supression of the top end to make it big system friendly and this one is ready for the rave!
Any dancefloor that fails to be moved by this guy must be made of stone. Big up Knell :e: :w: :e:

Come on people, where's the love for the 15yrold??? lad's a hero :t:

Mate, props for yr track and for puttin it up here.
I was tryin to logout but anyway... feedback is u've got a great ear for noises - dutty big hairy noises - and how they sit together. That big midrange bass sounds correct to me, specially with the strings behind it, and the wobble is cool at different rates. I think next step fmight be to get a tune in yr head, somethin u can whistle, before playin the notes, OR take the notes u got there, colour code different bits and chop-n-change them a bit so they hit a 4-bar groove, like green-blue-green-blue-green-purple-green-RED - repeat! does that make sense? First impression is u've got yr groove right there at 02:47 - 02:53, that tickled my pickle. Also 03:26 taking the wobz up high there worked nice too. How does that sound on every fourth bar?

Oh, and respect for 00:19 nice how u put the sub in just before the mid-range - good timing. What a hero
Thanks alot for the kind words, i understand about the whole sequence thing and im going to give it a try. Also sorry about having to quote your whole post, didnt know how to reply otherwise ha.

This comment has been bothering me since I read it........... :?

Couldnt work out what it was about this particular bit of the review that stuck with me so much..

Then I realised........ if my track had you unsure as to what was done on purpose and what was accidental then tbh that was (and is) the point behind this type of track. All about blurring the lines between organic and synthetic, between planned and random.

Took more from this review than any other before it. Thanks for giving me an honest impartial view point. :D

Big up Knell :w:
