Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
I think Garden Festival is very good. Dour, Belgium, is also very good imho.
And that Shambala festival in Canada is great. Never been there yet, all you hear from it is great and they support upcoming artist. They seem to be always right with upcoming talent.
Thanks for the tip for Freerotation !

Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
Ended up at Melt in germany a few years ago, more techno than house but the surroundings are pretty amazing, as was seeing the grimace on ritchie hawtins face when goldie started trying to mc over his set.
Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
Global doesn't really appeal to me. I can just imagine the mud flecked gurning faces pressing in from all angles.
Then again I would probably be one of those faces.
Okay, definitely.

A few mates went to Garden Festival last year and had a great time. There's also Disco3000 held at the same site I think...

Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
didnt really like what I saw of Southport from videos last year too many yutes blasting suspect tunes from their chalets, i suppose this is just me getting older and more set in my ways!
Ive only been once when i was 19 so its over 10 years ago back in 'the good old days' when house was having a purple patch, i loved it. they still have sick lineups tho Connoisseurs Corner im sure is still immense.

Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
big chill is the one 4 me. i think it quite often gets (unreasonably) overlooked based on pre-formed opinions that its too LDN orientated and full of trendy wankers.
This has never really been an issue has become less noticable over the last few years. Also i think last year it made moves to make sure it has a younger crowd, and it almost had a european dance festival kinda feel to it.
The site is undoubtedly one the most relaxing, beautiful and well laid out of any british lrg to medium event (around 35.000 mark) and the variation in entertainment , food and overall quality of production and technical professionalism on show makes for a pretty awesome (albeit expensive) weekend.
over the times i've been there i've seen the likes of ame, buggz/seiji, coldcut, trentmoller, fracois k, nathan fake, david holmes, unabombers, plaid, chris cunningham, ron trent, metro area, quantic, switch, kode9, toddla t, basement jaxx, nitin sawhney, nightmares on wax, lee scratch perry, floating points, asian dub foundation, congo natty, london electricity, fat freddy's drop, jazzy b , red rack em, bracklesB2Bramadanman, scruff, etc.
trust. its proper.

Re: Best Summer Festivals For House Music?
Electric Elephant - http://www.electricelephant.co.uk/ - in petrcane, croatia. Exactly the same site as the first Outlook festival, but Electric did it there first. Beautiful place, wicked people, and no aggy dubsteppers moshing their way through the dancefloor and graffiti-ing the village.
I'd highly recommend it, and its only £80
edit: its the same location as the aforementioned Garden festival, which is also supposed to be spot on
