20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
Ive been working on this track for about about a week now, and its only just come to my attention that my bassline goes between 20hz and 60hz.
Now ive seen a few times on here that a decent system will only really play things as low as 50hz but wanted to make sure of this so i can either:
A) Change it and get it around the 50 mark constantly
or
B) Leave it as it is.
My monitors can pick it up, i can hear it (not feel it obviously) but just thought id roll in and check first before exporting it in a few days time.

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
Below 40 and the world changes - if you want to rinse a good soundsystem then you can dive as low as 30 Hz and roll off from there -
but just remember away from a system bass below 50 HZ is only just audible on most stereos etc
Id worry less about the numbers tho and just test the track on lots of stereos and players - then you can take an aggregate view and adjust accordingly
20HZ is more trouble than its worth to me - I roll off at 35HZ-40HZ and it works fine for me

Damn. You got there first.Sharmaji wrote:bump the sub up an octave.

Thats what i was thinking. If it doesn't work, then try switching key, along with all your other elements. Its a ball ache, but if the track is work it, then do it.Sharmaji wrote:bump the sub up an octave.
Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
all you really have to do is transpose your synths up a couple steps if it's too low, not too difficult.
Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
i say just roll it off at 30HZ if your happy with the sound. i like me some LOW bass. makes me
Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
this is the thing. it does sound nice. sounds nice through my monitors and through various headphones aswell, im just worried that if it gets played on a decent system (havent heard it through a sub yet) that its going to sound horrid.jsills wrote:i say just roll it off at 30HZ if your happy with the sound. i like me some LOW bass. makes me
might just keep it as it is though. Im happy with it so screw everyone else haha

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
if anything make sure it (the sub) is in mono and your volume level is proper you should be fine. im hoping it will sound better thru a proper sub than on ur monitors.

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
If you are a bit cheeky you can try what I used to do - which is to find a club/system with a decent system hang out and get to know people and try and either get in early or stay very late and blag the engineer into playing your tune as a test - I did this a long time back when I was making (admittedly terrible) house music ... The guy was ok about it as I got in super early - it is an eye opener when you hear it big.
I would say there is a lot of over-exaggerated talk about the value of going uber low - it can be great but its (like wobble) is not a magic bullet
Better the overall tune is good rather than just noted for being low

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
SO MANY THREADS ABOUT THIS SHIT
Anyway, like has been said, bump it up an octave, if it sounds too high try changing the whole pitch of the tune, like bump it up 6 semitones (not with a pitch control, put the notes up manually)
Sometimes I make the sub sound good before I go any further, because when you change the pitch of notes you tend to loose a sound you liked.
Hope this helps.

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
lol pull a Kromestar and keep the sub barely noticeable
Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
how about layering it and keeping a low 30 and a 50-60 in the same song? would that muddy it up?

The vibration is so slow at 30Hz that if you could here it, it's just rumble without any "tone" to it.

Re: 20-60hz Sub Bass... Question
you won't "hear" much below 30hz, you'll only feel it if you have a rig powerful enough to push the amplitude up. Those frequencies usually just muddy stuff up for the rest of the mix...
