despite wearing them virtually whenever i go out to clubs, i've still had tinnitus for about a month. i think it's probably permanent.... :(

anyhow, £14 or something for the er20s - silly not to buy em imo
yes Ram, These made such a difference at DMZ. Still had a wicked night and could hear everyone who spoke to me.

Only wish i'd took them to FWd last Fri. Ouch.

if u've had it a month solid then you've got it permanently. that's terrible... i'm really sorry.

if they cost £14 they don't do enough to save ur ears. ur only anywhere NEAR safe if u pay around £100. it's worth the money cos once you've got tinnitus, a perforated eardrum, are partially deaf... that's it. u can't get it back ever.

so if u've got cheaper ones remember to be careful because they're not blocking out enough to keep your ears safe... at your average club, u need to give ur ears a break after 15-20 minutes. which is scary innit, cos how many of u do that?
er20s are pretty good - same filters as the custom moulded ones. seeing as the er20s aren't custom moulded you've gotta readjust to make sure they're in properly

I do try to remember my earplugs wherever I go. Being a dj, it's important to protect your hearing.

Have to look after the ears, they are special.

:P

it's really not a joke tho , no offense but you wont be laughing when you simply cannot hear sub bass anymore, its the first thing to go

i suggest earplugs for ANYONE and EVERYONE . this issue is brought up once in a while on jungle forums i frequent, but especially for you sub bass fiends, you're doing damage everytime you go out, might as well prepare . it's something we all have to deal with or at least think about

at last central beatz they measured the sound and it was same db as a jet engine...
i voted er15 not custom moulded cos the 'custom moulded' ones i got don't fit...(i reckon they moulded em wrong cos the dude is used to dealing with old biddies and fitting hearing aids...)

so most of the time i use foam ones (provided at subdub/exodus/transmission/valve/centralbeatz/etc) cos they're comfy and easy to put in and take out... they make it all a bit muffled but if i feel inspired and wanna make a beat when i get home at least i won't be battling some phantom flying insect sound in my head as well as the booze.

I'm getting to grips with the fact that I've got to accept going to dances with pokey things sticking out of my ears. It might be a corky look but it's essential when our favourite DJs know how to cane the speakers like they do. Safe!

Although to be honest I've only worn 'em for Iration and did a bad thing by getting a bit, mmmmashed and taking them out for youngstas set at the end. not a good idea...

Ramadanman - I remember house DJs Rocky and Diesel doing some herbal drug trial to help their tinnitus. Dunno if it worked but might be worth a google.

I got some ER-20's just before the last Iration Steppas thing, and I'm real glad I did. The sound really is just the same but quieter, no muffling or anything. Forgot to take them to DMZ because I'm a bit thick, like. But definately a good invertment, I'll wear them everywhere I remember to take them with me.

cheers for the info. mine isn't really that bad at the moment. it's there - really high frequency, like the sound a television makes when it's on. but i cant hear it unless the room is silent basically.

Glad it's not so bad. You lot need to keep your ears sharp! Me, I've got slightly fuzzy hot noise in my ears for a few days after a loud night. Plus I keep hearing my phone going off when it's not. W.i.e.r.d.

Is exactly what I have and they are perfect. You feel everything, can easily have a conversation with someone (and you tend to shout less) and when you leave the clun not the slightest bit of ringing. Sometimes I take them out for a bit but at DMZ/FWD/SubDub tehy are nornally in most of the night.

I bought them after I perforated my eardrum @ Iration Steppas vs DMZ. That bloody hurt!

Seriously, for < £15 these re a good choice.

It's a really important topic, this one. Thanks to dubstep, I've now got constant ringing in my left ear (not just a high-pitched frequency but a 'tone', as it were). Sleeping is sometimes difficult because of this. Headphone use makes it worse. And I'm absolutely gutted. I'm only 21 and music is so important to me...making it, listening to it... to think that I've tarnished my one and only set of ears which will affect the way I hear 'subtler' music (classical, jazz) from this point onwards...well, gutting.

I've got ER-20s which I've found to be very good, but I'll probably dip into my savings for customs. Because I've honestly thought about giving some gigs a miss due to further damage. Eg. DMZ on Iration. Which sucks, because I love dubstep. I like feeling the bass.

A lot of people don't really care/think about it, and that's up to them of course. But seriously, our ears weren't designed to cope with such volumes for such prolonged periods of time. I dunno, maybe clubs should start to look at db ratings..? Or is that too much, it's up to us what we do etc? You decide :?

Is it me or are things getting a bit silly when you have to wear earplugs when you go out to have a good time...maybe the rigs should just be, i dunno, a bit quieter?

rigs should be loud - because that's how you get the physicality of the sub bass coming through

With earplugs, you can have the ridiculous chest wobble, and not be deaf by the age of 9!

ditto this is a really important topic. We only get one pair of ears. Definitely need earplugs at FWD these days, not that I'm complaining!

BTW, has anyone checked out the price of high quality hearing aids these days? - NOT music to the ears.
dubstep makes me happy
