Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Tell me what you think? It got kinda different
Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Hi I'm pretty new to this (producing about 3 months ish) was wondering what you guys think of this, any advice would be very much appreciated
P.S. It's split into about 3 crescendos so if you dont have much time and just want a flavour try for about 20-30secs at 00:30, 3:00, 5:30 - does sound better with the build up though!

Hit me back on this rough one and I'll return the favour:
Track: Ready for the War
I really dont feel qualified to give any sort of constructive feedback but I will happily share my honest opinion.I like the dark feeling to the track and the (staggered) drums work for me. I just felt that there could have been more emphasis on the synth wobble and possibly some sort of melody lead other than that this track is sick and makes me wanna incinerate some herbs and mong the F out. Peace n love! its the muthafuckin BIG AV!

Hope you guys don't mind something non-dubstep. This is a collab track that me and friend sketched out over the holidays (he's learning Reason, so I was showing him the ropes). I finally rewired the project and bought it up to scratch in Logic today - pretty happy with the outcome! Only bit that's bugging me is the end needs a bit more, but I'm not sure what to do there yet.

props
+ nice work with filter freq on the oldskool break (00:03 etc.)
+ big gritty bassline (00:14 etc.)
+ more nice filter work on the 1st drop
+ "F*ck!" (00:58) dumb sht, love it
+ dutty slo drumz after yr 1min drop, took the pace down just how we like it
+ plus the breakdown of the synth,(after 1min) short stabs, big delay - rootical.
+ nice subtle variation to the drums (c.3:00) before u bring yr loop back.
+ keepin to 3 and a half mins, very professional (i could learn from that...)
advice
- i say this to everyone so don't mind me, but it'd be nice to hear more work on the synths (00:01) etc. - u could take the opportunity to make some new noises no-one heard before, if u got the time? (aha! 00:45 - 00:58! hadn't heard that yet, that's what i was talkin bout, props)
- see where yr varying the phrase on the bass (1:53 etc.), u could vary the noise aswell as the notes? make some new bass/mid, or play with the distortion at least? just to add another dimension tho, not like there's a problem to fix
- the original drumloop isn't a favourite of mine, n by the time it come back (c.2mins) i was ready for it to be chopped up a bit more, maybe some delays like u put on the synth? but that does boil down to individual taste on the loop itself
overall,
big bouncy tune, very fun, love to jump up to it somewhere noisy. Not the most intelligent thing u could'v put together, but that's not a bad thing when its 2am and i'm tryin to climb inside a subwoofer... Nice1 Soyaman, look forward to the next one

fck this soundcloud mess, just gonna leave it as is, sorry for clutter

props:
+dutty unfriendly chord pattern (00:04), clear the happyclappies off the dancefloor

+ BIG KIK!!!
+strings (00:49) reminiscent of a WuTang joint, take the mix even darker, n they sit well on top off the bass. Maybe my favourite part of the mix

+ vox (1:39) keeps the mood where u wanted it. the happyclappies are queuing at the cloakroom by now
+ the drums come back as simple as they left off (2:11) u mightv been tempted to build em up but LessIsMore here 4sure
+ again, LesIsmore around 3mins, the strings hold their own.
advice:
- if yr thinkin of doing more work on it, i reckon first job could be take a look at the snare, see if there's any other options/layers that enhance the mood?
- the vox are dark but i reckon u gon't apply yr talents to em as much as u could? u could have more fun doing other things than just playin different notes? not a criticism, just encouragin u to push things further on that front, could be there's some kid on the floor expanding his mind with forbidden substances, and the next reverse/delay/pan/wotever pushes him over the edge and he invents a cure for the common cold...
- the clix that u end with weren't a part of the tune til quite late in the mix, so maybe they don't deserve the last rays of limelight? u could return to yr original bassline only this time it's all chewed up and grimey and there's people in tears cos it reminds them of a nightmare they had last night... i'll stop now
overall:
GotDarker! Made me consider a career as a serial kiler... great atmosphere, great mixdown, tight compression where it counts. Sht, yr mixing's better than mine, so what more can i say? BigUp

Jaydot - Insomnia
props:
+ Insomnia's kind of a serious theme i like to explore neway, so i'm already interested
+ straight away, first second, u know this is a quality tune. belongs on the GetDarker podcast up there with the big names, no doubt.
+ first sample, perfect selection, perfect. u've laid down the rules of engagement: this is gonna be gnarly...
+ the surprise! i don't wanna spoil it for anyone! Boyz - just have a listen... i think i need to change my nappy
+ that lo, slo bass/ bell u got going on from the start, i was too into the rhythm section at first, so it just kinda crept up on me. to achieve that effect u mustv got the levels etc. spot on
+ that hi-end noise (00:24) etc. i can't describe it, which is just what i like about a tune someone's put work into. We're starting a new decade here, we got the technology to define it with our own sounds...
advice:
mate, i dunno what to say.
- On second listen i spose u could turn yer hihats down and bigup yer snare a bit more, but if that's the sound u wanted then it's all good.
- u got room for more lo-end + mid-range action, some call + response maybe, but i bet yr already on it
- u also got room for a sustained breakdown. with that vibe, that pace and those samples, u could break all that down for some serious beat-free funeral parlour sht around the 2min mark, turn the lights off, lock the doors, go all horror movie on us, step up the amosphere + tension, then come back just as slo & moody as where u left off... that'd do it for me neway
overall
@1:38 it's early doors. but so far it's proper: it's slick, confident, minimal, terrifying, Stephen King, bedwetting, babies crying, emergency calls to therapists, japanese kids makin suicide pacts...

in terms of advice, i can only beg u to keep the vibe, keep the flow, stick with the programme. don't take too long on it either, i reckon lotsa peeps are gonna want to hear the full version soon. Respect.

[quote="jsaxton"]Soundcloud - 320s up now
Ok I'll review
Intro..... Sweet! I love the Brap and vocal hits!
Drop.... Thw first drop is perfect and the bassline is really nice!Wobble is spot on!
1.59 this little break from the bassline is perfect to make sure it doesn't get too repetitive
2.40 New synth is cool and still maintaining that cool bassline!
3.38 This drop is cool but the build up was a bit too long I kind of lost my interest, I's make it shorter maybe
Overall...... Its a sweet tune, just had the one small downside about 3.12 to 3.38 the breakdown needed something else in there!
If you could give me a review back I'd be v.gratefull!

Re: PUT YOUR FINISHED TRACKS HERE FOR FEEDBACK.
Yes Boys!!!
@1iopen - Props for keeping the feedback rolling in. Some serious effort put in there sir big up
Got a few minutes now so time for a quick review I reckon:
Collision - No Love
Props:
+EPIC sounding synth right from the kick off here. Really grabs the attention and sets the mood instantly.
+Wave fx sound wicked layered with the pads.
+Vox samples @45 sec and @51 sec add a superb spooky, alomost metallic edge to the tune. Nice use of reverb and delay here too.
+@57sec beautifully tripped out, but simple, hook begins here. Is that a xylophone or a glockenspeil of something? Whatever it is it really works well here. Nice choice of sound to contrast well with the synths.
+@1:14 to 1:41 there is a second layer to the xyloglock (?) sounds almost a little off key but but adds a nice dissonant overtone to the section. Reminds me of the way Kode9 uses dissonance in a similar fashion.
+@1:42 Nice layering of synths here.
+@2:05 Nice groovy drum beat here. Sounds very trip hoppy to my ears.
+@2:22 Nicely executed short breakdown here with a quality rise sample. Adds energy to a very laidback mix.
+The main section combines some wicked shuffled shaker samples which slink around the drums to keep everything rolling. The synths play their part well to adding a spooky synthetic edge to the organic sonding drum track.
+@4:20 Wicked change of pace here with the kicks doubling up. This man knows how to keep things from getting old!
+@4:43 Strips everything back to just sub and shakers. Evil. Pure Evil.
+@4:55 Just shakers here. Nice way to emphasise the impending drop.
+Pads throughout the last section really grabbed me.
Advice:
-Kick feels like it looses some of its bottom end in the final few minutes. Dont know if this is intentional or just me however
-I reckon those vocal samples need to feature more prominently in the tune. They are so nicely processed (maybe a touch high in the mix) that you should let them be heard more. Be proud man, they are that good!
-The intro might be too long for most people. Not including myself in that I hasten to add.
- Some of the more top end synths could have the very highest frequencies rounded off to make them a little easier on the ear. Easily done and would be a nice touch.
Overall:
Some seriously well put together tripped out stuff here! Loved the combination of pads, vocals, bass and xyloglock (that name actually sounds pretty cool) to create a deeply mellow, yet still very much engaging, track. Much love for No Love.
