More MCs @ FWD please...

Post by benjybars » Mon Jan 15, 2007 7:35 pm

anyone else catch ruff sqwad & Temps duppy off dirty canvas/7year glitch on saturday?? well i did and it left me wanting more..

At the moment i'm looking to sue FWD for false advertising.. 'every friday dubstep & grime' err... where's the grime then??! Don't get me wrong, I love FWD differently but there's no way that booking more grime DJs and MCs could be a bad thing (is there?).

Anyway, maybe Plastician can start off by bringing skepta, jme and wiley with him on friday... does that sound good?

I agree there should be more variation in the mc's, but I wouldn't want any grime mc just turning up and expecting to spit a few bars.

I don't want to open up a can of worms, but FWD should be selective on who touches mic. Too many grime mc's sound the same to me.

However I would like to see the following: Wiley, Skepta, Flo Dan, Trim, Stryder, Ears. Thinking back, Mighty Moe merked it when he was there, and Viper was good too, would like to see them back.

Im torn here. On one side its true, ive been to fwd a few times, and to be honest i havent really seen a hint of grime. And the "fwd sound" isnt just dubstep...

But on the other hand. I really, really cant get into grime.

I like it as it is, maybe a little more variation but must be very very selective!

i think fwd is live how it is i prefer to hear beats more than mcs when i go out
i think crazy d is heavy at fwd he hypes up da crowd and spits a few lyrics whilst lettin the music breath so you can still hear da beats clear instead of a bout 10 mcs shoutin and passin the mic between them like its some zoot and you cant even hear da lyrics let alone da beats

There should be an MC code of conduct for FWD...

1> Do not ruin the music by gabbin on and on and on.
2> err...your thoughts here...?

As long as they don't bring all aggy vibes (I don't think FWD is the right place for "draw for the bat and SWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGGGGGGG") and let the music talk, I'm all for it. My impression is that most of (if not all) the big guns who have appeared so far have understood this and the difference in vibes at FWD quite well anyhow. That is their job, after all.

With that said, it's important not to overdo it either. If people start announcing that Riko and Skepta will appear in advance, and these appearances happen every friday, things could go downhill fast.

definately more mcs would be good

there are so many sick mcs about, its just about appropriate programming and making sure it isnt just whoever can grab the mic for 16

riko, flow dan, trim, scratchy, d double, wiley, skepta, jme, titchy, the list could go on and on, all would be sick if it was thought through properly

How about Vicious, Dangerous, Larks, Roguestar etc? There are plenty of pure Dubstep MCs who havent touched fwd for ages

Been to Fwd a few times when some of the big mcs have been there, and its cool especially when they work with the dj... but then ive noticed that some people do suddenly forget their banners and charge up the front to watch the mc like their there to watch a talent show/celebrity or something... and some others have just chatted pure garbage for the duration of the set, and thats definately not what the night is about imo.

Think as Sand Leaper says - the mc thing at Fwd works best when it's not advertised.

yeah it's because there is clearly a lack of mc talent out there. :o

but in fairness fwd has been improving things vastly on the mc wasteland of march - october 06.

might mo and viper were highlights for me recently.

As unlikely as it might be (Wiley hates doing PR) I hope that Kode9 and Wiley will link up again at some point. Their session on Rinse FM was really something else.

yes yes yes... agree fully!

@ ak47 - yeah i think crazy D is good aswell, but come on man, he's often the ONLY mc for 4 hours...

anyway i'm really hoping skepta reaches with plastician this friday... these 2 complement each other so well and no one could deny that skepta understands the 'fwd vibe'..

MCs I would love to see at FWD soon would be...

Skepta, JME (really surprised he hasn't reached already... one of the best crowd interaction MCs out there), Wiley, Styder, Fuda Guy, Slicks, Rapid
Scorcher, Ghetto, Devlin Ears, Trim, Scratchy, Prez T... loads more..

To be fair Newham Gens always reach when Tubby plays and smack it :D
