Which dubstep-style do you prefer ? VOTE & REASON

Post by bi nka bi » Tue Jan 26, 2010 6:37 pm

I voted "Everything that runs around 140 bpm !"

'cause i like the filthy shit when i'm drunk dancing, the loungy things when I chill at home and in the train.. And the reggae stuff - Well, you know

my favorite style? not loungy, not filthy, not high on weed, and not just because it's 140 bpm :?

Filth is awesome for mind blowing moments, i could listen to it at any time..
Stuff like Digital Mystikz too
The dub stuff Skream does I could also listen to all day...
And when im blazing, any of the 3 !!

I win either way!

You have to be high not to regognize that "Everything that runs around 140 bpm !" is just a funny way of writing "A little bit og everything"

And ''down with tha rastaman ..." is just another way of writing: The reggae influenced dubstep.

So, now you have a translation.

you pigeon-holed a couple different 'styles' as options and then got lazy and tried to dump the rest onto a 'little bit of everything' category.

that's not how it works for me.

Everything at 140 BPM :D

I love surprises in mixes! I want the drums to switch up between tunes from half-step to two-step! Throw in some slow jungle or fast Ukfunky drum tracks and then drop it all! Of course I also like mixes that are all in one style but I LOVE to hear a DJ throw curveballs. It's a lot more surprising to hear Shackleton blended into Doctor P blended into Skream blended into DZ than a bunch of consistently similar tunes seamlessly blended for an hour.

bizarre options but I got what you were getting at. I voted option 4.

 a being able to vote more than once.

My reason is that when I got into it, I checked some of the names of the people that was there from time...from the "early years" or whatever. this brostep vs everything else mentality wasn't as strong as it is now. I tried to cover as many names as possible and saw DIVERSITY. I listened to everything and anything when first getting into this sound.

But really it's almost frightening...the amount of shit that comes out on a bi-daily basis is fuuuuuuuuuuucked up man. makes me feel like there are producers with completely next takes on the sound that I'll only catch on to maybe 6 months-a year from now. I guess that's life.

and yes...I just rambled on without addressing much of the actual topic

I'm abstaining as it doesn't cover 2006 DMZ material (or indeed much else from around that time)
