My theory has always been it's down to the "know your place" nature of the class system, but who can say for sure.
"In the US, every kid grows up being told that if they work hard enough, they can be President. In the UK, every kid grows up being told "don't be ridiculous, you'll never be Prime Minister."
Bit of a generalisation maybe, but I think it illustrates the point nicely. It's a very odd and really rather destructive character trait of the Brits.
Mix on the DL, looking forward to listening back.
I remember most of the Hoe remixes but the best one was easily Champion Hoe (or Hoe 5) managed to pick that up on vinyl for 1.99 last year i was bare haps

Re: So you don't like grime?
did the producer brain/brains (sp?) ever do any tunes other than 'the low dan' for trim and that 'thug luv' (slinga/2pac/biggy) track off prancehalls mixtapes? the beats on those were both absolutely fucked.

Re: So you don't like grime?
So many good points raised here. My problem with grime vs dubstep on a popularity level (and this is only from my experience from promoting student clubnights to a mainly white middle class audience in Hereford) is that people go mad for the stupid wobble basslines because they can't access that kind of bass at home through their ipod speakers, but can listen to any 'grime' tune with lyrics and its gonna simply be louder in the club environment... therefore the dubstep events draw a bigger crowd thus the promoters are more likely to book a dubstep dj playing the usual tunes over a grime mc/dj live set-up... Also grime has got a bad name at my local club after Wiley failed to show for his performance which does make people doubt whether the next booked grime act is gonna show...
Yet even after all of this I personally still prefer grime to dubstep... My vinyl pick-ups of 2009 include the new Terror Danjah, Wiley, Rudekid stuff and also alot of old second hand stuff which I could only source on vinyl... Moment of the year was walking out of Rhythm Division with over 30 12"s from 2002-2006 which they had sold me at 2 quid a piece...

Re: So you don't like grime?
v true what exactly is it these days? these days most acts know they need 'a dubstep mix' of their song and you can usually guess what it will sound like before u hear it.nowaysj wrote:blackdown wrote:dubstep has lost much of what it was.
its been amazing, i thought grime really was dead, but the recent big hits have given the uk youngers a 'dream' again - its watered down stuff that got in the charts for sure, but its no different to how hip hop works.
