the empty bottle continues their popular monday night series of free shows with the chicago debut of ninja tune recording artist KING CANNIBAL from london, alongside chicago bass junkies PHADED, QUADRATIC, SEARCHL1TE and ENTRO MC.

KING CANNINBAL's infamous aragami style, deemed "too dark" by Radio 1's Mary Anne Hobbs, might well be the personal soundtrack for all of your inner demons. 2010 finds Ninja Tune's Dylan Richards bringing his uncompromising razor-edged sound to north america for the first time. cannibal indeed takes influence from the darker aspects of modern culture, as his debut release let the night roar demonstrates. fans wondering where dancehall, dubstep, drum & bass and industrial intersect will want to mark their calendars!

--------------

>KING CANNIBAL aka ZILLA

Art school dropout ZILLA (government name Dylan Richards) began working on his own brand of super-evolved mixes towards the latter end of the nineties as a reaction to the glut of uninspiring mix compilations that had began to flood the industry. The first salvo against conformity was "A Friendly Game of Chess", a self-funded, hand-sprayed, highly under-the-counter mix project with Lex Records DJ and friend Buddy Peace. The highly stylised conceptual expression of work that combined a rich fusion of textures together with strong themes and motifs began to ignite more than their own imaginations, selling out in just 48 hours and earning high praise on a global scale.

A Friendly Game Of Chess was swiftly followed by solo mixtape strike One Foot In The Fire, One Fist In The Air which earned numerous comparisions to Coldcuts 70 Minutes Of Madness'. Comprised of almost 100 tracks from Autechre to Britney Spears, interviews and spoken word interludes, the CD sold-out in a day, attracted attention from all corners and ended up in many a Best of 2004 list. Among those with their ears to the ground were Trash supremo Erol Alkan, notorious London promoters Wheels Instead of Hooves and the heads of both Ninja Tune and Warp Records.

After 2 appearances on the legendary Solid Steel radio show, the honour of being the first unsigned act to play at Strictly Kev & D.Ks Solid Steel clubnight, 4 sets with Buddy Peace at Dedbeat 04 in the course of one weekend and a number of European dates, Warp Records stepped in and invited Buddy Peace & ZILLA to compile a retrospective of the label. Released late September 2004 as part of the 'WARP VISION The Videos' DVD, the mix entitled 'Watch And Repeat Play' was a startlingly original tour de force, over 70 minutes the two DJs re-worked and re-wired the label's back catalogue, twisting the already twisted into sonic maelstrom. The Warp Vision Audio Visual / Resfest Tour followed, with appearances alongside artists such as Plaid, Chris Cunningham, Seiji, Mike Paradinas and Funkstorung and invitations to play at the Glade Festival, Trash, The Warp Summer Ball and The Poke Xmas Rave. It was these shows and the experience of playing live that inspired ZILLAs latest mix Grinted Teeth & Brawlsville , a year in the making, it was a more uptempo and aggressive yet challenging body of work that manages to find the link between party starting crunk of Lil' Jon and the dancefloor destroying sonics of The Aphex Twin.

2006 saw "ZILLA" going back the lab and perfecting his twisted new sound, an industrial take on dancehall, dubstep & drum n bass. Demos and material started to leak out and with tunes receiving massive support from Amon Tobin (Ninja Tune,) Kid 606, Combat Recordings and Rag And Bone Records. 'ZILLA' was invited to record material for Kid 606's Shockout label, Rag & Bone Records, Combat Records and Uncharted Audio and put together remixes for Black Grass and New Flesh.

2008 was a big year of true Cannibal Carnage due to massive radio support in the form of the recent BBC Radio 1 Scorn Vs King Cannibal Soundclash Special and Aragami Style receiving HEAVY rotation on Mary Anne Hobb's Experimental show , planned collaberations with Bong-Ra, remixes for The Qemists ft Wiley, Ghislain Poirier, Scorn and Ebola his EP on Bong Ra's Kriss Records and appearances at numerous festivals.

Having now released his debut album "Let The Night Roar" on Ninja Tune, it seems these long lists of endorsements are no fluke. Piecing together shards of a wide array of influences, utterly uncompromising industrial sounds and razor-edged rhythms shifted shape from Dancehall & Drum n Bass to drone & Dubstep in what Richards calls his school of "brutal deluxe" production, falling somewhere between the sonic shadows of Amon Tobin and aggressive swagger of The Bug, both fellow Ninjas. With his debut North American tour about to start alongside appearances at The Royal Albert Hall, The Apple Store London for Ableton, sound design work, radio appearances, side projects, mixing duties for DJ Food, remixes and album promotional activites still raging on, 2010 will see King Cannibal trying to catch breath and prepare to walk the long dark tunnel to the sequel. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

"Its not often that someone comes along and defines your opinion of the potential of djing.
Over the course of two under-the-counter mix-cds, the man known as ZILLA has done just that." - Fact Magazine
"Too dark, love this tune"- Mary Anne Hobbs (BBC Radio 1) on Aragami Style
"..a great tune...put together like a dj's wet dream."- Amon Tobin writing about Aragami Style (forthcoming on Shockout) for Urb
"someone please give this guy a residency! - D.K (Solid Steel/Ninja Tune).

>QUADRATIC

quadratic crafts dance floor oddities that skirt the boundaries of detroit electro, techno and dubstep. since their first ep release in 2008, the long-simmering collaboration of chris widman and colin harris of abstract science has impressed chicago crowds with dynamic live performances opening for kode9 at sonotheque, dj distance at smartbar and daedelus at the empty bottle.

chris widman is best known as a dj and long-time host of the chicago radio program abstract science on wluw 88.7fm. over the years, he has shared the bill with a diverse cast underground luminaries—amon tobin, cinematic orchestra, jaga jazzist, m83, meat beat manifesto, monolake, plaid, the orb, unkle and ulrich schnauss, to name a few—and has dj’d every type of event imaginable, from raves to operas. colin harris is an agile developer who spent many hours of his youth tweaking lines of code, playing with music trackers (and guitars), and pumping hours of bass-drive out of his computer subwoofer. graduating from a casio sk5 to fruity loops to ableton live, harris has transformed his programming skills to adapt custom devices for live performance.

the duo first met in 1998 at widman’s club residency in columbia, missouri, where he first encouraged, and eventually, invaded harris’ music projects: widman’s experience as a dj and drummer complementing harris’s sense of melody and technical dexterity. the result is quadratic.

>SEARCHL1TE

On the turntables or tweaking a live P.A., Searchl1te lays out monster bass weight and teeth-rattling percussion. Irreverent of genre but observant of vibes, he brings the substep, sarcopha-beats, yard techno, scandalbass and tech:freek biz. His tunes are loaded with his own field recordings, samplings from a nerdy collection of vinyl and collabs with the underground's tuffest lyricists and musicians. Searchl1te’s music resides in the space between genres, where they can be heard clanging and blending together...like the cacophony of a street market...or two cars next to each other at a stoplight with their windows down, each blasting different music. Searchl1te has traveled extensively with this sound, bombing beats in Buenos Aires, NYC, San Fran, Vegas, Chicago and all points between.

The founder of Part Time Sucker Radio, Searchl1te (a.k.a. Kee - BassByThePound Crew) has been doing non-commercial radio for a decade with WNUR 89.3 Fm, http://www.Dubstep.Fm, http://www.Destroyer.net and http://www.Dnbradio.com.

Mind the new project, Chicago Sewer, which partners Searchl1te with The Abominable Twitch. Chicago Sewer is a live pa tearout that incorporates bent circuitry, software dexterity, live instruments, turntablism, and more. Check out one of Chicago Sewer's live recordings here -> http://tinyurl.com/yfsu8mm <-

For a day gig, Searchl1te teaches reading, writing and music production to incarcerated youth in Chicago. Visit http://www.FreeWriteJailArts.org to peep writing, art, and tracks produced by his students.

>ENTRO MC

coming from the depths of chicago's underground, ENTRO MC has worn many hats, but as resident master of ceremonies for bass goes boom, ENTRO is known by many as THE chicago dubstep MC. his laid-back and articulate flow has showcased countless heavyweights before disappearing into the night, most likely to look for girls at doom metal shows.
