i know it's completely off the subject of dubstep, but who else has seen it?
i went to see the late showing with friends the other night, and wasn't impressed.
i mean yeah the depth of all the 3D images were pretty cool, but personally think the film was shit! hahaha

I actually thought it was really good, seen it at the IMAX cinema in B'ham. 72ft wide screens ftw

you have to be open to the movie and have a certain personality disposition imo.

the hypes beacuase of the people who it does fully connect with find it fuckin sick lol. so in some ways the hype is real.

its not the best movie EVER, but its definately one of the better movies of recent times. it pushes film technology but it also integrates a lot of the other characteristics which make movies what they are in a great way, i.e. good story telling, building characters, scenes and meaning, etc. the fact that the visuals and the 3D immerse you highlight this more and make it preform better.

like i said, not the best, just presented very well because james cameron is a legend.

I was very impressed by it (especially visually)

Sure the overall story was predictable, but the package as a whole was more like an experience than a movie.

It's more of a preview of the future of cinema than anything else.

Now if someone manages to make an amazing story AND incorporate this technology one day...

The technology used was well impressive and the movie dragged for a lot longer than it needed to.

But with all the pretty colours and EFX not many people seemed to notice.

Probably a lot more enjoyable after a zoot or two.

I also liked that the 3D was not in-your-face.

Unlike some of the appalling trailers they played before the movie.

I went expecting mainly cool visuals and not much story or character development, and got just that. I enjoyed it for it's eye candy and action, but otherwise, as mentioned above, it was nothing special IMO, been there done that kind of stuff. Wouldn't say it's a bad movie, far from it, but really nothing new minus the new take on 3d CG. I did enjoy it though, saw it a couple of times and probably once more before it leaves imax.

couple of other pretty long threads going on it:

I hear some people make it out to be all about the effects, but I think that kind of sells it short. I thought it was really good, and i thought it was actually trying to say something, as opposed to most the big blockbusters that come out.

A couple other blockbusters, crudely summarized to a few sentences, for the sake of comparison:

Transformers:

Your life sucks. Bang! Woah! Robots are invading and you saved the world! Good job. Here's Megan Fox, you earned her.

Zombieland:

Your life sucks, so shut the fuck up eat some hostess products you fat piece of shit. Bill Murray. (I'm paraphrasing with these)

Avatar:

You life sucks, because business and military interests wield a great deal of power in our society that you feel detached from. Good job, you defeated and changed the world for the better by finding an authentic connection with the world and the people around you.

Best way ive heard it described!
The storyline etc. pretty much defines what I dont really like about films (not that it makes it a particularly bad film, I just dont get on with films full stop really) but fuck me I love sitting caned in a cinema with some shit hot glasses, a box of popcorn, watching crazy fucking colours swirling round my facial. Tight.
