American Baptists held in Haiti after trying to take children out of country
A group of 10 American Baptists were being held in the Haitian capital today after trying to take 33 children out of Haiti.
The church group, most of them from Idaho, allegedly lacked the proper documents when they were arrested on Friday night in a bus along with children aged from two months to 12 years who had survived the earthquake.
The group say they were setting up an orphanage across the border in the Dominican Republic.
"I want the Americans to take over the country. The Haitian government can't do anything for us," said Jean-Louis Geffrard, a laborer who lives under a tarp in the crowded square.

Also why pick om Haiti, why not say that bankers' bonuses should go towards military expenditure or maybe pick up some other way the state spends frivolously and ask why can't that money be spent on 'our boys'?

Interesting article by John Pilger on the kidnapping of Haiti,slightly overwrought as is his style but still very worthwhile reading.http://www.newstatesman.com/internation ... -venezuela .You would have to have your head very deeply buried in the sand not to be in the slightest bit worried about how the reconstruction is going to pan out.
