I think it's Mac time!

recently i've been having so much trouble with my p.c i just can't stand it anymore
so am thinking switching to a Mac although i do not know much about Mac's but the tower is so dam sexy but
i think i will save up for a Mac book so maybe i can get serato later on and take it on the road with me
but the thing is i will also have to change new DAW
so am not sure which would be best for Mac

I don't have much experience with Ableton but in my opinion Logic is the best of the bunch, worth buying a Mac for alone.

nah just get a mac if you're tired of pc. dont know what sort've budget you're working with but i'd go with a the new macbook or macbook pro.

personally i'd go with ableton. logic is good for traditional daw composing and arranging, but ableton is good for that and more. ableton has more of a live slant, and if youre interested in serato, then definetly check out ableton since live now has serato support.

Any the current Macbook Pros will do you well. They're overdue for an upgrade though, so I would hold off on buying one for a few months.

Ableton is great but I've found that at a certain point you hit a brick wall in terms of its DAW capabilities.

It entirely depends on what kind of techniques you're using / want to use. My techno-head friend swears by Ableton as a sole DAW, but then again he is quite spartan in his setup: bass synth, analogue drum machine emulator, synth, etc.

I've pretty much entirely switched onto Logic now. It takes a long time to get really comfortable with it - a lot longer than Ableton - but it's worth investing the time, you can do pretty much anything on here. If you mostly use midi then perhaps Ableton would be better as a DAW, there's some great sequencing possibilities on there, especially now they've sorted out the limit on the automatable parameters. But I like using a lot of audio, and Logic is clearly better for that, for a number of reasons. Just a proviso though - if you're really into a more audio setup, Cubase is the king. There's a number of things on Logic that still frustrate me that were basic features of Cubase, before I moved to mac (and before they ported Cubase to Mac) - in Cubase you can do offline effects processing within the arrange window etc - loads of potential for when I used to make mad cutup breakcore type business. Logic you can't. Also, in Cubase you can control a region of audio's volume, fade in and fade out within the arrange window; in Logic it's much more complex. Cubase is basically a a full DAW evolved from a kind of audio-editing backgroud; Logic is a full DAW evolved from a more midi-sequencing background. Ableton is the alien evolved from something else. Loads of things Logic does better - routing is amazing, for instance, and I think the general organisational system of regions/audio bin/etc is better, but I do miss the audio processing features of Cubase!

Anyway, rambling, all are great tools, but you might want to think about your working style before you shell £££ on the DAW. Logic is by far the best value, pound for pound, IMO. Also, Macs are fantastic for music, there is just a simplicity and efficiency in things like the folder structure and search features (find samples bare quickly) and they just don't crash, really. Take the plunge!

ive got myself a mac, and spent a while using logic. however i always found myself coming back to ableton, the flow of it is unbeatable

I switched allso from pc to mac, and must say, it's all good. i'd prupose you a macbook Pro. And ableton.... that's what i use ATM. and it's a lot greater than any other programs i used on PC.

Yikes, audio and routing is what I love most about Ableton. I know a few folks that have switched from Logic and Cubase to Ableton for the audio features. And midi is a stronger suit of Logic and Cubase. I don't use hardware but I have heard it still leaves something to be desired in those regards. I am not the type to hate on another mans program and especially not in this case. I don't use Mac but have always wanted to fuck around with Logic. It looks so sexy. But I guess that is what I would be worried about. Sometimes the sexy gui's can trick your mind into thinking it sounds great when really the plug in just looks really cool. Not trying to play video games, I am trying to make music. Ableton is kinda plain looking so there are no illusions.

My PC broke down after 7 years of good service. But I have kind of adopted the GF's macbook. Just for general use the macs take a bit of getting used to, but are easy to learn. This macbook is super reliable and fast after almost three years...Hopefully it holds up.
I dont want to buy a PC ever again...But then again it sucks macs dont have HDMI out yet...I think I'm set on a macbook pro once I can afford it...

I bought an Displayport to HDMI converter for my MBP for less than $5. It doesn't carry sound, but apart from that it works like a charm.

Most of the new macs (imacs, mac pro, mac mini etc..) all now come with what apple call a 'Mini display port'. This is a HD Signal i believe and with a few $ you can buy an adapter for your HD monitors and TV's

yeaaa mac book pro sure sounds good but pricey but i will have to wait a while and save up
but ableton is sounding pretty good to me as it is now combine with serato..i've always loved mixing on tables but i have not
bough any vinyl is yrs but if serato is now part of ableton which would be good for making beats,play live and now mix records again..
