MONOLAKE - Titan (insane track)
I'm pretty sure many of you who have heard Sigha's Hotflush podcast heard this tune... if not
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqQNKfsOlB0
Where do I begin? This is one of the darkest tracks I've had the pleasure of listening to lately. First of all, is this dub techno? and second, who else makes this type of sounding tunes? I'm SUCH a sucker for this stuff it's not even funny. If had to pinpoint my tastes in music it would all lead to something that has the elements "Titan" provides. I love it dark, surreal, and nasty. Tunes like these, I always visualize 'space', and it's a pretty fitting visualization I'd say.
What can some of you folks recommend? I'm looking for artists, as well as tunes in particular.

The Titan/Atlas 12" was one of the best of last year, such an insane record, I haven't heard anything that makes you feel so much like you're flying for such a long time.
I highly recommend getting Monolake's new album - it's mellower than that 12" but turn it up with proper speakers and you get the same vibe - and oddly the new Autechre album (which isn't out for a little while) has some similiar sonic touches although it's more ragged and weird.

the flip to Titan is really good too. Monolake is pretty amazing.
check out stuff by Marcell Dettmann and the label OstGut Ton (techno, but really really great)
also check out anything by Peverelist:
bluez
waterfallz remix
infinity is now
jarvick mindstate lp
clunk click every trip
earstwhile rhythm
etc etc
oh and Scuba (hotflush recordings)
both of these guys are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the technoXdubstep crew (with all due respect).

Re: MONOLAKE - Titan (insane track)
I've had Monolake's "Silence" since it came out - It's generally good, the standout tune for me was "Infinite Snow" without a shadow of a doubt that one's the highlight. The rest didn't wow me as much. I need more "Titan"-like sounds. More atmospherical, and with a sense of swooping through wormholes and vortexes, floating in space, type of sound if that makes sense.
Another track that comes fucking pretty much up on par if not better was ALSO on Sigha's mix, on his Breezeblock mix from November, Milton Bradley — Beat992. For those who've heard that track or mix, will know EXACTLY what I'm on about. That's some of the most serious techno/breakbeat crossovers I've heard in such, SUCH a long time. MASSSSSSIVELY insane tune. The worst part of it all is that it's unreleased, and Sigha told me that he doesn't know whether there are even plans of it being released.
For those who want to hear it - I ripped it from Sigha's Breezeblock mix http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WXAU8KJ3

Re: MONOLAKE - Titan (insane track)
Well I heard Cinemascope - and that had some awesome atmospheres courtesy Monolake. One of my favorites was "Ionized". In terms of sound the album is not quite like "Titan" though - I take it because it's quite a more recent evolution of their sound (we're comparing 2001 and 2009, so obviously).
Ostgut Ton is a label I'm definitely going to check out - any particular releases?
