Can anyone recommend me stuff like...

Post by mattybar » Thu Jan 18, 2007 1:53 pm

alright people

this is my first post on here - how do you do and all that.

i'm an unashamed new jack when it comes to dubstep but i've acquired tons of tunes in the last month or so and i'm trying to expand a bit on what i've got.
some of it's a bit touch and go like and i'm keen to weed out the good stuff.

i'm not 100% of the track titles so correct me if i'm wrong but the tracks that are doing it for me right now are...

DJ Pinch & P Dutty - war dub
Loefah - midnight
Vex'd - fire
Vex'd - fire DJ Blood 1 remix... i WELL want a copy of this if anyone's got it, til then i gotta keep caning the streamed version i recorded off the vex'd myspace page)
Moving Ninja - kemancheh

basically the first half of Dubstep Allstars 2 is wicked and all.
I'm more into the slow, warm sounding stuff that sounds more like dub than drum'n'bass if that makes sense as dnb is a bit too jarring for me.

anyways, thanks in advance to anyone who can suggest some good stuff along the same lines as this... ie slow and minimal.

Hello

Burial's album is amazing and sort of warm and minimal but it's more influenced by garage and jungle than dub in my opinion. A lot of stuff by mala and coki/digital mystikz is very dubby. The allstars and tectonic plates compilations are ace introductions to the scene

You'd probably really enjoy Hijak's stuff. There are still copies of Babylon Timewarp / Dally on Deep Medi Musik around. That was a superb release.

There's loads of other stuff at the dubbier end of the spectrum as well. Ones that come to mind now are Pinch's remix of Lighthouse Dub (on a label called Punch Drunk), and the Mystikz remix of Cay's Crays (on Kartel).

haha seen
we'll see i guess.
i've always been more into reggae and hip hop than jungle and that but i'm keeping an open mind here.
the more suggestions the better, so please keep 'em coming.

i'm well curious to check out some stuff live too cos so far i'm bumping mp3s.
haha i don't even have a working turntable right now but this will change soon.

managed to get the tectonic stuff and some next comp called ''ammuntion & blackdown present the roots of dubstep'' in the meantime.
gonna check it all out tonight.

oh yeah, i'm well into the Moving Ninja stuff too. found one song randomly then searched on here and found a load of free mp3s.
Proper moody like.

Thanks again for all the suggestions yous been giving me.
