How do I get my Kicks and snares so sharp!!

Post by revabug » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:33 pm

You know the typicall really punchy dub snares and kicks like this;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czRB2cvhc9E
Are there any tutorials?

I've got some nice samples, but I can't work out how thats done,

I'm using reason atm, so if you could help me to make this sound with reason that would be nice.
I also understand fruity loops, so yeah (:

Is it just a nice sample with amid boost which has been compressed the shit outta and layered under the kicks? or wha.... I dunno, HELP!

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

layer a kick under a snare......add reverb to both kicks and your snare......compress it and put a limiter on both

also use multiple snares to vary sound

Usually what I do is just compress my kicks, distort the snares/claps and put reverb on both of those things.

pretty much this.. i'd add the reverb after the compression though

more to the point tho. don't use reason unless you've got it rewired though another sequencer.
the mixer on reason makes everything sound weak and tinny.
