i still think we ought to run another competition.

One without a sample pack ... just based on a theme/film/remix

where u can use your own drums n vsts

yaknow i was thinking about this for awhile.. but now it really doesnt seem that exciting to me. remix comps on here would be cool though, if someone had stems or something of a song that doesnt suck or something. or something. or something. it would be cool to do something like say we chose a song like request line, and we all tried to remake that song and whoever gets the closest to making it sound the exact same as the original song wins, i think that would be kinda cool.

but im pretty content with these sample comps, i have trouble writing out a whole song but every time i do these things the ideas and writing process seem a lot easier and come to me faster, i feel like im improving a lot everytime i do these comps its like a blessing and the deadline forces me not to get lazy on the tune, which i do with all my other stuff.

Sounds like a fun idea except that whoever uses the same DAW/plugins as the original artist would have a huge advantage.

@Tav:

That actually sounds like an amazing idea, I will consider this for the next competition.
It would be great to do something different, and perhaps even have a greater prize, maybe like a gift card, or DSF shirt, etc.

Plus, I'll get an idea of what will be made I guess :e:

You're not allowed to take part?
I'm part of the judge panel so no i can't :( S'all good though ^_^ Will be cool to be on the other side of things, taking a spectator's view of the tracks that come out :e:
ummmm......

uhhh.....

I thought the whole point of Judges/Panel was to hear what participants could do with a foreign set of samples. Shouldn't ALL THE JUDGES be downloading the sample pack?!?!

How the fuck can you tell what we did UNLESS you download the samples ?!?!?

And I am sorry to be getting pissed, but did some you people read the FIRST post in the thread? It's pretty simple about the rules and what you have to do.

And the idea of a "cover track" sounds cool. But I wouldn't participate. Only because I consider it a creative stump on myself. That is ONLY ME. I know it would be great for learning to reproduce what you hear, into your gear, from a technical position.

Sorry for the rant.

btw, how many judges are there?

FWIW - I did DL the samples and listen to them. Thought they were mighty fine.

Already made a start and it's sounding pretty funky at the mo =]

Question; will there still be a peoples' vote?

It was HAACK that brought about the idea of the judging panel due to the potential of spamming votes and then someone winning who may not have been the best track (which is what almost happened in the last one). I think there's 5 judges.
I don't see why each judge should listen to the samples but it is a good idea I guess : )
Either way, if they're listened to or not, the quality of the track's production, use of samples, idea of the track in general, those sort of things will be what's being used to judge which is the best track.

bugsky - No, atleast not this time there won't be. I suppose this is just a trial to see if it works well. If it doesn't then we may end up reverting back to how it was. It would just be good to make sure that the best track wins and gets to bring forth the sample-pack for the next one ;)
Does the judging panel listen with subs? You'll need one for mine to sound right.
I'm quite sure yes lol. I've got some lovely headphones that give me nice low bass so they're always good in that respect and to hear all the sounds that have been put in, no matter how quiet. Also useful for listening to how the stereo's placed and used.
Debut album "Bass, Space, Pace & Peace" out now on Methodology Recordings!
Cheers to all supporters and those who've dropped tracks in their shows!! :e:

I don't see why we can't have both - a judges' and peoples' vote.

Also:

Has anyone thought about getting like 12 of the past winners onto a DSF mixtape EP and sending off to a few labels, or releasing it independtly, and some of us contributing somehow through artwork, promotion etc, then doing whatever with it next, maybe raising some funds for the forum for a new something or other?

Just a thought, apologies if it's been done/suggesrted before.
