MAKING A MIX

yeah, that's kinda what i was tryin to say. whatever floats your boat, do it, and f the haters.

And on this my friend, I do believe we can agree.

I've been a DJ for about 12 years now, and in every medium.
I use Ableton now for both my sequenced mixes and my live (with the apc40) sets and it's amazing for both.

This is a recent sequenced mix I did in ableton.

EDIT: In my sequenced sets I do a LOT of custom edits of things and really try to make most of the mixes something special. If all you're doing is you're average everyday track to track mix in a Daw of some sort, sadface.

I did a sequenced mix for my radio show....it took me an entire afternoon/evening. yeah it was all the custom edits and things. I was also chopping second fragments of tunes within the mix and incorporating them into other songs, etc etc. it was definitely fun

Haha, yeah. It's a lot more time consuming than banging out a recorded set. The mix I linked took me about 36 hours total or so.

Probably most. Though Dubstep/Dnb DJs tend to be much more stuck in their ways than the DJs of most other genres I've encountered.

Ill dig on a Bassnectar set cause its admittedly ableton, n yo dubsac, if you get a digimix done, send me a link dude, I like oyur productions, love to hear a mix. But around ehre, particularly within the HHC kids, I see to many Djs get booked on thier ableton sets n then get up thier on the mixer n fuckin TRAINWRECK. Just tell me when its ableton, n Ill fuckin skank out with the rest. But use it too its fullness, n dont front bout what your not. Like I said, I like too know. Dont like to discriminate. Not down with the hicks n haters.

Why would you ever sya this n then rock a Fuck CDJs avatar? I bet Ill get shit down just as smooth as you with my CDjs and laptop on the Aux then you have in a year. This is exactly what Im dissin, n you have no right too tell me not too when you have such an ignorant avatar yet are talking about DAW mixing. Talent in the decks is a perfect way to do a perfect mix, n dont get me wrong, I still stand firm behind what I was saying earlier about producers n DAW mixing/software matchers/ableton for expansion of live set possibilities, but, cmon dude, you cant say Fuck CDJs like those of us who use em are lower then you n then run a DAW for a year n never get a mix done. Thats just rude.

Your thick skulled man, did you miss entirely how I DONT USE VINYL?! And I can quad drop... I have two module players coming from my PC to my AUX channel and then two CDJs on the Numark, plus the drum sequencer/synth module program on the laptop, n the effect processor on it.

I am doing exactly what you did on a that damn DAW live. And the only reason you "cant" is because you "dont try hard enough"...

hell yeah dude, if your on VDJ, lemme throw it out, you WANT a korg nanokontrol. I imagne VDJ supports midi right, traktor does... but dude, those play button maps + fader maps on the pitches change it ALL dude, seriously, best 60 bucks you can spend.

N if its CDJs your in the market for, Ive seen cool results from 4 channel mixers with effects + players, you can go pretty cheap with it if you really search, denon makes some responsive cheapo players, n I think behringer has a 4 channel effect mixer, n numarks got some cool cheap shit in the CD desk and rackmount shit thats as cheap as they come n lasts forever, pretty accurate too... you gotta wire those with a laptop for effects though on master... N if you send CDJ master signals to a track in your DAWs mixer, eheh... its fuckin on... FL for drum patterns and effects with the cdjs down below and module apps on the AUX? 400 bucks total. N thats buyin the cheap FL too.

Its not... he posted a link to his sets, I mean, they arent bad, but I know ALOOOT of people doing that live n on the fly.

But holy shit, has anyone other then me heard JFBs megamixes? Hes the king of pushing the technology, him n beardyman are fuckin innovators in it when they perform together... Serato setup + live loop mapping to it through a kaoss pad and the interface, plus ableton n a bunch of little module apps runnin on the side? Sweet new-school turntablism Jesus... that shit fuckin awesome...

Its all about merging it all into one area, we shouldnt be bitchin back n forth with me n the Turntable/CD crew on one side n you ableton folks on the other... we should be discussing how too integrate the two worlds, digi n organic, n the sickness thats possible thier... Thats what me n so many others try n achieve these days, n it REALLY IS the future of the art. Not each one solo. But both together n Live.
