Oh shit forgot about recorders played one of them in primary school
hahah started in grade 3. actually continued
once you get passed the shitty plastic hand-out ones they're serious instruments. it's just that the average person never went past grade 3-4, so they look at the instrument as cheese.
a Recorder album will be happening soon. once I can get into a proper studio it's gon happen
I thought recorders were just the crappy plastic ones, would be nice to hear some music from a real one.
Learned piano as a kid and got to grade 6,but then gave it all up as me teacher was a sadistic old bitch.Folks really tried to get me to see another teacher but by that stage the damage had been done. Can hardly play a note these days now ,but definitely want to try and relearn[maybe jazz piano this time].
Really surprised to see so much love for the piano.
I'd love to play the violin if not only so I could play this, probably one of the most beautiful pieces of classical music I have ever heard in my life.
I Am not a massive fan of classical music but I have enormous respect for it.

This is near godliness for me, playing the piano with a backwards melody whilst singing - the words are said forwards but pronounced with a backwards melody..
love that track live!! not alot of peeps know about dat.

I was trained for a good 6-7 years to the bugger on the right.
Also trained in piano for most of my early childhood and have self-taught myself Drums/Percussion, ukulele/guitar/bass and now use Cubase, VST's and Turntables.
Nothing like Computer Music to have 2,039,485 instruments at your fingertips!!!
btw i don't consider myself a musician or producer/dj as it is more hobby than anything else.

Lots of people in this thread that want to do things, but aren't doing them... pull your fingers out chaps, instruments don't walk up to you in the street and introduce themselves, you know.
My bedroom walls, shelves and desks are littered with instruments I've "had a bash" on... it makes for a nice habitat too. My parents place is full of instruments too (guitars, saxophones, keyboards, drumkit and countless bits of percussion)... I just can't imagine living in a house without instruments all over the place.
They're cheap too if, unlike me, you're sensible. Absolutely amazing what comes up on Freecycle... I know people that have got pianos, violins, harmoniums...

I would love to be able to play the piano.
If you would love to you would have done.
I would love to too but I just don't have the money, time or place to buy a piano or a nice synth that can play piano and has enough keys, motivation is there though.
So for now, it's gonna stay at envying other players while listening to them...
Would be so lovely to come home, play a bit mendelssohn or whatever and just relax.
Or play some jazz with some of my friends who do play instruments.
I can (in theory) play the piano (grade 5/6). But I haven't touched it in 18 years. I blame my disassociation from music on a horrendously mentally abusive teacher. I never actually stopped emjoying music and in fact constantly make up tunes in my head. But I've never committed anything to paper or PC.
I've been gearing up to have a play on making some electronic music for the last year and a half. And getting a midi keyboard. I've also been vaguely toying with the idea of taking up drums for over 3 years now.
Oh and my mom's just reminded me that the piano's mine to inherit. Now I just have to figure out whether it'll be cheaper buy a new one or to have the old one shipped over to me....

It's amazing how you just *make* time... you can get a keyboard with a decent enough piano on it for a couple of hundred quid second hand, or even free if you know where to look. Once it's in the house, you won't worry about finding time... they just sort of find time for you.
And you don't need to be able to break out the Mendelssohn to have the best time of your life either... I know I sound like an advert for Boosey & Hawkes or something, but serious... even just playing Chopsticks right for the first time will give you a serious buzz. Sometimes I just sit around with my Moog playing really shit acid basslines... it's fucking awesome.

You can get them for a couple of hundred quid new too. And yes, time can be made.
And where should I look to get one free my dear.

Yeah, but if you want to learn piano properly (rather than synths/keyboards), you'll want one with properly weighted keys etc... I wouldn't get a cheapy keyboard if you want to learn classical styles.
I'm not sure about in Belgium, but in the UK we have "Freecycle" groups online where people advertise things they'd otherwise be throwing away... pianos are quite common things to come up as people often can't move them to their new flat or something. Worth a Google for a local one and keeping an eye on it.... I've had 2 harmonicas, a hatstand and a telly off our local one!
