Indeed, I know it sounds stupid what ive said but ive seen it happen to a lot of people over time - even myself! It won't happen instantly but if your laptops constantly sitting on magnets theres a good chance it will whipe.NilsFG wrote:Yeah, do explain.mistayif wrote:really? please do explainlegend4ry wrote:yeah, laptop DJs/producers watch out haha the magnets in those big speakers (even your little monitors at home) will fuck up your Hard drive.
The magnetic field needed to whipe out a modern hard drive needs to be pretty big, most speakers / monitors don't have such a big magnetic field out of their cases (shielding etc)

Seen this in the club, mans turns up with lappy full of dubs to play for the awaiting crowd, puts laptop on speaker while sorting stuff out, turns lappy on - BSOD!

Yeh, most studio monitors are sold as being "magnetically sheilded" but i still wouldn't take any risks. Its just really not worth the hassle all because you couldnt find somewhere tidy to stick your external hard drive or whatever...

Yeah, as convenient as it looks, your desk monitors are not a laptop stand, no matter how well positioned behind the mixer they are.Project_B wrote:legend4ry wrote:Indeed, I know it sounds stupid what ive said but ive seen it happen to a lot of people over time - even myself!
