like the APC40 (and Launchpad) because they are made for Live...therefore they're mapped to all of Live's parameters right out of the box.

that and they're both plenty stable and look great when they're all lit up.

damn that ohm looks pretty sweet, and easily mappable. i'd probably go with it over the apc40, but definetly not for the $600 price tag

yeah ohmage looks niice,

nothing I can't do with my various cheap-as-shit controllers tho.

its what your controlling that counts, not how you control it :D

considered the apc's little bro? not sure on price but seems just as smart as the biggie..

just as smart? i dunno man, it's only got 1 knob on the entire thing, which i guess isn't a biggie if you already have other controllers with knobs. the main thing i dont like about the apc 20 is it doesn't have a damn crossfader! which you'd think is a pretty critical component of the controller, since so many people are using these for djing.

After reading the official apc site and the ohm site, I think Ohm is going to be the one for me.

There are several reasons.

1> I like the physical layout more, finding it more logical for mixing and DJing
2> It is customisable ---> Phat!, so I'd want to get my own Futures Untold theme built
3> It runs off usb only, which is handy when treking about to unknown destinations
4> The company ethos is open and inclusive, allowing for custom modifications and personalisation
5> The midi mapping editor looks sweet, with the ability to map to any software easily
6> The VJing stuff also looks sweet
7> I like smallscale indy companies, allowing me to support real people instead of just another sales rep for another big souless media enterprise

Brap! 8)

Of course, I may still have to put some serious consideration into building a custom controller too.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The APC20 is completely out of the question for me. Doesn't have the rotaries I'd like for controlling FX etc

bought the ohm 64 today!

Badman!!!

Didn't know about this device, went to a music store, wanting to decide me - buy a apc40 or create my own one???

It was a long discussion with my friend and the seller, then i saw that baby and tought: that's exactrly what i want to create!

so i decided to give this 150 franks amount for this baby, instead of the apc40.

Building my own? nah man! would cost more than the double.

Totally inlove atm!

The Ohm64 looks nice, but I got the APC40 a long time ago and to have it pre-built to play with Live made my life like 100x easier (and awesome-r) ;)

there are ready to use max patches, for ableton. so you can use it like as an apc. and you can program it your way, plug a midi keyboard on it.... i'm actually happy with it.

But not everyone has Max MSP/Max 5 dow ;) And true, but the APC40 was built in conjunction with Ableton and so the support is there from the off :)

well, i don't have a problem with the apc, and you are right, it's made for ableton.

but what happens, when you want to doo something different with it, than perform beats on ableton - (video mixing, use an other program than ableton)?

mate don't try to make me less happy. i just bought it, and it works fine for me. - if you got apc built in a woodbox, or something specia, that would be a reason to be jealous. :) it's about having fun, not mesuring penises! :D

...I think you've kinda taken what I've said and rolled with it a bit too far lol I wasn't getting jealous or arguing (or trying to make you less happy lol), was just stating a point... And in response to your question, the APC40 is a MIDI device so it'll work with anything, any audio or video program worth it's salt will have a MIDI learn function so if I really wanna use it with it then it'll take me 5/10 mins to assign values (just like you will have to when you use your Ohm64 ;))

true.

what i like on the apc is, that it has multicolor led built in, so it has the possibility of more modes than one.

what i like on the ohm64 is, it's totally free. no one gave me ever a idea what for a knob could be, i am outside the box. and that was the main reason why i thought about to built my verry own.

Those Ohm64's seem pretty cool and if you got one 150 Swiss Francs, then you got a really good deal. They are listed for $600 US dollars here.

I ended up with an APC20 and Novation Nocturn combo a couple of months ago, which cost $300 total, and it's working out quite nicely.
