As the final winter month that is Febuary draws to an end and we look forward to gradual process of spring through March, AKA AKA ROAR! can't help but feel a little poetic. With this in mind, we can't think of any better person to cap another great month of parties then by somoneone who's music MARY ANNE HOBBES has described as "breathtakingly beautiful in every way.” At least we think she was talking about his music, anyway.
PANGAEA, aka Kevin McAuley began making music with a two-track mixer, a keyboard and a tape deck as a schoolboy. Discovering dubstep via the sounds of Mala in the backroom of a Leeds club in 2005, Kevin was inspired to found the city’s first dubstep night, Ruffage, and launched himself into the studio.
He is the co-owner of Hessle Audio with fellow stalwarts Ramadanman and Ben UFO, responsible for progressive, landmark releases including TRG’s ‘Broken Heart’, Ramadanman’s ‘Blimey’, Pangaea’s own ‘Coiled EP’, ‘Router’ and ‘You & I’ alongside material from likeminded producers Untold and Martyn. His new EP on Hessle Audio is killing it right now, make sure you check it.
Our second headline spot comes from Bristol scene heavyweight KOMANAZMUK. After deciding a couple of years ago to switch from Drum and Bass, a scene in which he'd already established himself as one of the best producers around, he has already released tracks on Tempa, Mode and his own Hench imprint as well as collaborating with the likes of Pevrelist and the man that brought AKA AKA ROAR into the world Appleblim.
Last but not least Ben White returns to his usual support slot at AKA AKA ROAR. Ben has graced the decks at Fabric, Matter, Glastonbury Festival and we are proud to have this young man holding down a regular spot at Aka. Check out Squeaky Bleeps, the blog Ben co-created, for more insight into the sort of thing he will be playing on the night.
