does anybody know the reasons why they want to close it?
Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
I'm all for providing support to Plastic People and everything but what good is signing a facebook petition really going to do?
Call me cynical and by all means give me some facts that might back up that it actually does something, but I very much doubt the police are going to give a shit at all about whether or not a thousand angry little ravers have joined an online group or not.

Why the fuck are they closing it?

Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
Apparently for:
1/ PREVENTION OF PUBLIC NUISANCE
2/ PREVENTION OF CRIME ANTI DISORDER
WTF SRSLY? Might as well close down every club in the country while they're at it coz they're all worse!

Yeah according to the notice on the door it license is under review... how long that will take fuck knows! Shame... it was never that loud anyways. There are louder systems in this area. Although i've joined that group i'm of the mind that it wont change anything... a million people took to the streets against the war and that still happened, not sure a facebook group will make much difference to a clucb closing down, but it wont hurt either.
Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
Yeah, i agree with the idea, but facebook is not a way to achieve anything. Start a proper official online petition.

Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
by public nuisance i suppose they mean the noise, in which case it should be changed to "vietnamese-restaurant-and-nobody-else nuisance" lol. its not even that bad either, they are just whinning.kay wrote:Apparently for:

and by "crime anti disorder" i suppose they mean people being antisocial? i dunno. seems like bullshit really, plastic people is like one of the least likely places for crime and and antisocial behaviour of any sort. the only thing maybe that because some people blaze in there but its not that bad isit?
its true that there are a lot of clubs that should be shut down aswell if there gna go by these standards but i wouldnt argue from that point because they might just do that and we would be left clubless.

Very sad to hear this! People need to get on this and support.
It was only the other day I was reading that Thursday night FWD would be up and running again soon. Can't really afford to shut such an incredible little club down. Always pure vibes down there, venues got a sick system. It would be sorely missed.
Something needs to be done.....

Looks like only interested parties can make "representation" which
means if we want to help we need to help either PP's owners or
promoters who use it. See below...
Notes
Representations against the above applications can be made by
responsible authorities and interested parties. The Act defines
interested parties as:
- a person living in the vicinity of the premises in question
- a body representing persons living in the vicinity of the premises in question
- a person involved in a business in the vicinity of the premises in question
- a body representing persons involved in such business e.g. a trade association
Responsible authorities and interested parties or their representatives, may make representations on licensing objective grounds only. The licensing objectives are:... See more
- the prevention of crime and disorder
- the prevention of public nuisance
- public safety
- the protection of children from harm
Representations must be made in writing, and should be sent to: The Licensing Service, 1 Hillman Street, London E8 1DY by the closing date. Alternatively, you can email it to us at licensing@hackney.gov.uk by the closing date (Plastic People = 11/03/2010)

Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
Just thinking about this today and quite frankly Plastic People is maybe the only legitimate, legal geographical home of dubstep left. (The others that spring to mind seem like Big Apple Records [now gone], Rinse FM studios [not really legit obviously] and Velvet Rooms.)
FWD>> at Matter/ End is a great thing but it's not really the same thing for me, and the music kind of feels a bit out of context in theses arenas. Plastic People is where it's at, especially in front of those bass bins.
Also respect to the promoters for keeping it in the same venue for all these years.
This place must be saved.
All the talk and panic of saving Abbey Road and this place of future cultural heritage could slip away from us and become just another trendy Shoreditch cocktail bar. Now I like comfy beaten leather sofas, wax candles in wine bottles, chalkboard menus and overpriced drinks as much as the next twat, but I would defo miss those bass bins.
Can someone good at law get onto this?
Blackdown can you get onto Metro/London Paper/Evening Standard people at all? Maybe 1Xtra?

Re: KEEP PLASTIC PEOPLE ALIVE
i think what we need to do is find out how we can help constructively... someone needs to speak to PP's owners...
