A species of shark rarely seen alive because its natural habitat is 600 metres (2,000 ft) or more under the sea was captured on film by staff at a Japanese marine park this week.

The Awashima Marine Park in Shizuoka, south of Tokyo, was alerted by a fisherman at a nearby port on Sunday that he had spotted an odd-looking eel-like creature with a mouthful of needle-sharp teeth.

if it lives real deep then it would be accustomed to higher pressure and might not function too well in shallow waters.

thats why they can't catch a live coelacanth

Here's some AMAZING FACTS for all you AMAZING FACT fans

Those big ugly moray eel fuckers can actually make friends with people in the wild! I found this out at the St Andrews Sea Life Centre, which I can highly recommend. They have seals

There's an underground lake in Antarctica called Lake Vostok. Scientists who know about these things reckon it's been sealed off from the rest of the world for about 200 million years by 5 miles of ice and there's THINGS living down there :o . I read about this in National Geographic so I know it to be true

Metro love this kinda story....

My mate just drew my attention to this from yesterday's edition:

"An iguana called Mozart, who has had a permanent erecti*n since he mated a week ago, may have to have his p*nis cut off if his condition does not subside. But, even if amputation is necessary, the future is not entirely bleak - the lizards have two penises. Keepers at Aquatopia Zoo in Antwerp, Belgium, take Mozart to the vet tomorrow."

Lol!!

EDIT -> I've put '*' in the rude words, cos otherwise the
board seems to autoformat them into nonsense. Wierd!

out 2 j-roq for this one:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/01 ... index.html

In an evolutionary twist, the newborns' 8-year-old mother, Flora, shocked staff at Chester Zoo in northern England when she became pregnant without ever having a male partner or even being exposed to the opposite sex.
