Filthy basslines

Post by daneford » Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:58 pm

Ok, so I know about LFO and how to make a synth wobble, but other than a few synths in Massive, I can't seem to figure out how to create the signature filthy bassline (like on TC's "Where's My Money" or Davr's "Shook Ones pt 2" http://www.myspace.com/davrdubstep)

Thanks! If it helps I used Fl Studio because it's the only program out of the bunch that my computer can handle

no, man, its not obvious, at all.

You just pointed at two totally different sounds, only thing they have in common is that they are both wobbles... And asked us too tell you how too make em. We have wobble tuts, and from the too examples you sighted, thats the 'general sound' your referring too, cause those are very different synths.

But really though man, on a serious note, Ham VST. Such a sick fuckin app dude.

Is there really a ham vst? I cant find one on google? Maker? Freeware? Thanks

For that dirty bassline try making 3 of the same basses, on one of them pan one to the right and another pan it to the left, and boost those both in the mid range. On the last one dont pan it boost it a bit in the lows. And run them thropugh the same bus with effects. I think that will make something dirtyer

change the pitch... -24, -12 and 0. Then change around the waves (i like the math ones in massive) then link the lfo to the filter cut-off, have the filter on scream. Then you can experiment with different wave shapes, they'l be in the lfo section somewhere. Just experiment and figure the rest out yourself......this is a shit explation but i cant be arsed to type anymore, good luck

Just play with different LFO's (unsynced) until they please your ears. Same with envelopes and filters.

I think there has been too much emphasis on LFO though a good basslne can be such a powerful yet simple sound even without modulation..

My favourite bass sounds that I have made took me about 35 seconds, so dont think it has to take a long time to get the desired result. Always start with an initialised patch though.

Layer oscillators for maximum boost.

Add that on top of what Corkz n Youthful just said about Massive and Layering, and then n a few months, youll look back on that question, knowing what different sounds those songs are now, and be like...

Its all good though, welcome to the world of synth science man :t: ...

Yeah, thatll just increases the freq range of the sound... Detuning has alot of great uses (sweep reeses, ect.) but, not gonna change the sound much aside from a spread range and some nasty phasing if you arent careful...

For the record, though I posted some lolz, there is one real link there. Dont want the original poster too miss it...

I have an idea! Lets put a big sign above the production forum saying:

"IF THOU SHALL ASK FOR THE HOLY INGREDIENTS FOR THE WOBBLE, THOU SHALL BE BANNED FOR LIFE"

Getting pretty sickkkkkkkkkk to say the least of these noobs who never heard of a search button or simply ignore it to
irritate us...

RTFM or DO SOME SEARCHING! It's not like there aren't 500.000.000.000 posts about your fucked up wobble!

Sorry @ daneford but you should be kicked in the nuts for asking...
