Studio B's first "dubstep" was some kids from Ashville. I think people starting crying about the dubstep and they put back on the Psyshit.pompende wrote:so are you doing gigs anywhere? can't say i would go to a show like this tbh but when i had left greensboro i think only studio b had done any dubstep shows.

Well I got completely disgusting with the majority of things going on in Greensboro. The last couple parties I went to were just everyone laid up on the bar talking and drinking. It could have easily been the radio playing, and no one would have noticed. The only enthusiasm for the music was from the DJ's. Kinda felt embarrassed with just me listing to the DJ and him looking at me. Greensboro has had its moments, and will probably have more, but its not happening now.pompende wrote:haha! yeah im extremely glad i didnt go then. i had fortunately met one of the djs the night before and he told me who he was and i realized that he was from a psytrance crew...

well there's just a huge gap between what people want to hear at the bar and what dubstep djs in greensboro want to play. for instance, there has been a a regular electro and house night downtown. conversely there has also been a weekly dnb night on spring garden near the campus. if djs want to play tear out bangers they should focus on house parties and dive bars. if djs want to play the bars and clubs downtown they need to focus on the funky/2step side of things, include a lot of house and probably some staight up radio rap hits as well.
so yeah..can see why you're jaded...i'm in chapel hill now which is a lot worse for edm in some respects but is at least near raleigh.

I been going to raves in this town since 1995. Seen a massive decline with some high points.pompende wrote:well there's just a huge gap between what people want to hear at the bar and what dubstep djs in greensboro want to play. for instance, there has been a a regular electro and house night downtown. conversely there has also been a weekly dnb night on spring garden near the campus. if djs want to play tear out bangers they should focus on house parties and dive bars. if djs want to play the bars and clubs downtown they need to focus on the funky/2step side of things, include a lot of house and probably some staight up radio rap hits as well.

so, if someone manages to bring Distance or Scuba or the like to town, I'll come out. Until then its Sub.fm for me.

Re: Manual Labor :: 12 Dubsteps to Recovery :: A Dubstep Mix
I think the decline in the scene has to do with a lack of venues honestly. Jazzy Joel Productions has been doing some huge parties from what I understand. I haven't made it out to one yet, but they do a mix of indie rock and dubstep, b'more, electro djs and it supposedly draws out like 300 kids. Like I said, I can't speak from my own experience. They've done stuff at Studio B and Lindon St Art Bar. Neither of those venues has their own sound system though, whoever mentioned Studio B had subs, that shit must have been brought in from the promoter.
Solaris was a great option, until it was sold. While I would never want to do a weekly there again, you could easily pull a monthly. The only other place is Artistika and the owners are notorious for fucking over promoters, this I know from personal experience. Argentinian coke-heads do not make for reliable bedfellows.
Bottom line, greensboro scene has always been chutes and ladders. We in a valley now, but I wouldn't be suprised if shit pops up again in 6 months, last for 10 months, and then dies down again. It's just the way things are.
