Stealing the spatial image of a sample for use on things

Post by my_fickle_eye » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:11 pm

Hey people just wondering if anyone knows a reverb vst that can you upload samples into so it takes the spatial image of a sample and uses it within the reverb, i know about impluse reverbs emulating springs and stuff just wondering if anyones made one where you can do this. Example would be using the spatial image of a sample of the sea on a pad.

Thanks for your help people :) rICH

Think there is extremely little reverb at sea. What there is, is probably masked out by other water sounds.

You're talking about convolution reverb, which use impulse responses to generate a reverb which behaves like the room that the impulse response was recorded in. Now I'm running Logic so I don't know about convolution reverb plugins except space designer but in space designer you can load in any wav/aiff file as your impulse response and you can get some interesting results using non impulse response files.

yeah man looking at something really specific like a sample i have which im using in a song. I want to have the sample for the start then bring in the drums etc but still have the feel of the start sample with the spatial image of the reverb of that sample on the syntn not just having any impulse convolution reverb whatever it is.

This sounds like a really good idea not sure how to word it but i really want to get the stereo spatial image of a sample of the sea i found, do you know any plug ins i can use for cubase on windows that would get the effect you are talking about. Its not just the whole record every frequency and its a reverb job but i mean liturally the spatial image, like when you record a sample of ambient noise but things come at your in different directions when you play it back. I want to get that effect from a plan mono synth i have.

Although you can customize the spatial image of a sound but panning it in a different ways and even putting a vst effect on it, when you listen back to a recording of someone sitting in sayyyyyy.... a busy park, the different sounds you get from different directions sounds really good (eg the spatial image of sitting in a park), i want to replecate that panning in a synth. If i can get a vst effect which can make the spatial image sound like that it would suit perfectly, fed up of camel phatting samples of ambient situations for an organic spatial image.
