Weekly Project 001 - Making sounds from pictures ...

Post by tripaddict » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:05 am

I thought it'd be a nice idea to see if we can compile a 'dubstep' sample pack made from sounds created from images.

I've done some research so you lot don't have too lol ;)
http://photosounder.com/ << pc (demo-only)
http://monalisa-au.org/ << mac free
http://www.nicolasfournel.com/audiopaint.htm << pc version free (the application ive installed)
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/vbme3.html << blind people are using this

The vsts below support bmp import ...
Camel Audio's Cameleon 5000 1.5 ($199)
Rasmus Ekman's CoagulaLight 1.66 (Win, free)
BeepMap included with fl.
I pulled most of the links above from this article here ...
http://emusician.com/software/say-with-pictures/

I have looked about and cant find many video's on the subject the one above isnt really music from art but still is related and pretty cool id be interested to see any more examples.

and another example of 'music from art' could be the reactable some crazy synth bjork uses ...

please lets try n makes this work & also interesting ....

I've been doing this for some time using pictures of supernovae and nebulae from Nasa. Sometimes with no alteration at all it's like a whole symphony is playing all at once, then of course once the tinkering starts it ends up being really crazy. Was just thinking about this subject when I saw this post. Really fun stuff, lots of creative possibilities. Thanks for the vst recommendations.

Yo photosounder is for mac as well you know!

Im actually doing this for my creative sound project for university. Im going to make a track all from pictures related to the actual music. Not sure which genre yet, but im going to draw my own kicks, snares and hats etc... for drums, and the rest will be the pictures for pads and synths etc...

If you wanna check something out easily and quickly, use audacity, it has a spectrograph on there.

I was just messing about on my break with pictures of my son's 1st birthday... can't wait to get into this a bit deeper. 8)
I like how you can preset the bpm and such. Pretty neat for a free piece of something.

This is definately the coolest one I have seen today. You can install it into cameras etc. So you can teach yourself to see sounds which is really amazing. I remember seeing smething about a woman using this on t.v. can't remember the programme but sadly

This looks interesting as! Have tried putting non-audio files into audacity to get weird sounds, but this looks about a million times deeper and awesomer.
