Lee Scratch Perry is mental!

that guy is an alien!

Sometimes I am feeling his mumbling/blabbering about shite, and sometimes I am just not. Guess you gotta be in the right mood........ Lee Scratch Perry is MENTAL, that is for sure!!!!!!! Seen him live with Mad Professor...... insane!

One of my pet peeves is people calling dubstep dub..... it's no where near that. Dub is an organic/analog sound; heavily reggae influenced.... dubstep is synthetic with some analog elements, but far more complex in nature...... granted both can be intertwined........... but Dub is not Dubstep!!!!

Dub > Dubstep IMO

Im the same, but I think for different reasons... I like alot of organic music, and love reggae, but, dub lacks something in my eyes... and alot of it is a bit eccentric and a lot different rhythmically too what Im used too...

Its wierd how many angles come into dubstep really... Dub, Garage, Jungle, Breakbeat, DnB/Liquid, IDM, Ambient, Gltch, Trip and Glitch Hops, even hardcore genres like breakcore and noize... Dubsteps truly a beautiful thing... cuz its everything... and you dont have too like all its influences or all its current manifestations for it too be your genre of choice, its entirely too diverse for that... Dubstep means alot of deepness to alot of people for alot of reasons...

Musical evolution is fascinating.

Mad Professor has some awesome tunes even if I dont like Dub on the side note...

I'm sure I read a post from you talking about space in music.

If you are using deep bass, off kilter rhythms and space in you production, where do you think they came from?
Hip-Hop, Detroit Techno, Chicago House, Jungle, Garage, yada yada, all these are from the heritage of dub music.

So you not into Digital Mystikz, Kode9, etc because without an ear for dub how are you appreciating their music.

I would like to throw in Gabba as the worst genre of all time, how anyone can even listen to that let alone dance to it is just boggles the mind. :?

Hmmm I actually only appreciate their use of sounds and how well the tune is contructed. I don't have a dub background and I draw my influence from jazz, triphop, ambient and 2step, let me like what I want and be happy? If you read above, you will see that I have tried to like the genre as a whole and I honestly can't, surely my opinion should be respected and appreciated.

And...

Yes gabba is the worse, ever.

Gotta agree.

I cant stand dub. Honestly I cant. Reggae makes me feel nauseous too.......

To say you cant like Digital Mistikz and Kode9 if you dont like dub is ridiculous. Thats like saying you cant like modern Hiphop if you dont like Grandmaster Flash or Sugarhill Gang.

Triphop and Breakbeat have been my main inspirations when it comes to dubstep. Gotta agree on the Gabba point too. Pointless, totally pointless.

how you ''can't stand dub'' but post on a dubstep forum and (I assume) make your own music makes absolutely no sense!

true dub isn't just music...its a showcase of techniques. King Tubby built a lot of his own gear. think about that the next time you just download a VST delay plugin and have a fiddle!

I'm not saying you have to like dub, I was saying you have to appreciate that dub and the elements that made the genre what it was are what all these genre's that followed drew from. I respect that certain elements of it you might not like but surely you can pick something in that music to identify with.

Sorry mate I just dont agree.......

As Basic A said earlier dubstep is much more than just dub influenced. I fully appreciate that Tubby et al were pioneers in the way electronic music is made but I dont like the music they created.

In the same way that I appreciate the skill and foresight that goes into designing and making Ferraris, I just dont like the end result. Its called personal preference mate.

Dubstep would be pretty fucking boring if the only people that were allowed to make it were fans of and influenced by dub.

Oh I respect it and know the roots. I just am not a fan of the genre as a whole. :W:

i read somewhere once that dub is all about compressing everything to hell which i think is true. i respect it and can take it in doses, but it does get fatiguing to the ears at times.

haha, sometimes gabba is the greatest thing ever though. it's one of those genres that people either seem to make really awesome or really shit stuff

i guess it isn't really for dancing though, more for just being attacked by a barrage of sounds at the same time
