Modern remixes of classic songs. Right or wrong?

Don't know if this one's been discussed before but wanted to know peeps opinions on it. Good? Bad? I'm undecided. I think it very much depends on the tune and quality of remix. Like if someone did a remix of "Wish you were here" (Floyd, duh) it would have to be pretty fucking amazing. And probably not dubstep. RJD2 I reckon could be the only one to do it. And even then no.

I'm not sure if I like it, purely because I love the original so much, but it is pretty dark and evil and it's been twisted about enough to not sound too obvious on the original. Like I said, I remain undecided at the moment. Thoughts?

i agree with this, a well done remix this is respectful of the original artist can work brilliantly, but too many these days just seem to be a nice female vocal, with a big kick on 1 and a big reverbed snare on 3 with a big bassline behind that (think skreams in for the kill remix, not that im sayin that was bad, just that it seems to be inspiring a load of crappy rip offs)

Some of the best dubstep remixs imo are nero's work on some of the old streets songs

Easy Star All-Stars outs teh long beach... full blown remake of the whole album, Dub Side of the Moon... Love that album... Un-fucks-wit-able, period.

I agree with that statement. I also agree that some music just shouldn't be touched, especially if it's just someone adding some synths with LFO. Really though, if they aren't trying to make money from it, or trying to pass it off as their own, then I don't see the problem with someone experimenting and having a little fun. If I don't like it I will just avoid it.

Yeah good point. Anyway I think electronic music was founded on breaking rules. We shouldn't take that out of it imo. Tell the truth tho when I hear something classic that I personally love, I always get pissed to have to hear it remixed. I can just turn it off tho and I do.

Don't get me wrong I like the Blinded by the light remix, but it's ironic that you posted it after saying there's too many half step female vocal remixes

Nobody's going to complain if the remix is really good...but if it's bad, you're essentially ruining a song that's close to a lot of peoples' hearts and displaying a lack of understanding of what made the original great...and a lot of people view that as disrespect to the artist.
