We couldn’t be more excited about this show! Back in the mill for another party, as we welcome Mount Kimbie to Manchester with some really amazing bands and DJs. With live art from 158 and an install from “the one and only” Cycloptic, it really should be a sight, and a night, to behold. In the coming weeks there will be exclusive free tracks and mixes distributed through our sites and linked here, so keep your ears to the ground! In the meantime check the blurbs and links below to whet your appetite. Hold tight!
MOUNT KIMBIE (live)
http://www.myspace.com/mountkimbie
Hotflush Recordings presents a brand new production duo that eludes classification: Mount Kimbie. Based in London, they have developed a truly unique sound whose experimental rhythms lend themselves to the fringes of dubstep, wonky and hip hop, but ooze with emotion and echoing ambient soundscapes that take the listener to an entirely different place. This first release features four tracks which capture their evolving sound. The minds behind Mount Kimbie, Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, both 22, met at university and began making music together in a home studio in Peckham. Hints of their influences from hip hop, jazz, dubstep and experimental electronica can be heard in their productions. The EP has already been well received, with support DJs including Mary Anne Hobbs’ BBC Radio 1 Experimental show (on which they also recently performed a guest mix), Scuba on his podcast for XLR8R, Rob Booth’s Electronic Explorations show, Ramadanman’s recent podcast mix for Dub War NYC, and Alex Incyde on Sub FM.
DENIS JONES (live)
http://www.myspace.com/denisjones
Denis Jones is a self-taught guitarist and songwriter from Lancashire, UK. Having begun his musical life as a singer songwriter in the classic UK mould of the likes of John Martyn, he has over the last three years developed a show-stopping live performance based around the core of his exceptional and unique guitar-playing style and rich, soulful voice. Utilising a loop station and all manner of samplers and effects, Denis creates vast, complex orchestrations of beat-box rhythms, multi-layered vocals and other-wordly sounds which veer from subtle heart-wrenching folk and blues to heavy bass-driven electronica.
XXXY (live)

XXXY is the kind of producer who levitates simple genre classification. His sound has the sparse dubby minimalism that you would associate with Manchesters fantastic Mindset Recordings and the other two stalwart producers on that label, Indigo and Synkro. However, his music is given extra texture and depth with brooding synth lines and almost orchestral sounds, all underpinned with a trademark shuffling 2-step drum pattern, we really can't recommend this guy enough. As well as Mindset, XXXY has released tracks for Formant, Pollen and Karbon and has a track featured on Vol. 1 of Fabric's Elevator Music.
