playing stupid songs in the middle of a dj set

has anyone ever dropped "the entertainer" or some goofy song in the middle of an intense set to lighten the mood? i always thought that would be great

haven't done it live...

but in the guest mix I did for MANTIS Radio, I mixed in the Gremlins theme song... as well as used a bit from a Tom & Jerry cartoon as an interlude.

I used to do this a lot... Prince, Peter Gabriel and Cameo in a DnB set once, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Smashing Pumpkins in dubstep sets... for the right crowd at the right time, its a great weapon. Need to start dusting out some more...

Do you have the whole Ghostbusters soundtrack or just the theme? Theres a tune called "Magic" on there thats essentially proto dubstep...

I'm not sure if the average crowd is open-minded enough. In fact I didn't even dare playing out the 4 to the floor intro part of Nero's Act Like You Know because I was fearing the music sizan to go all "WHAT IS THIS SHIT" before it could drop...

i played a ghost busters theme song remix once, SHIT WENT OFF. but then again drugs make people like strange things.

Next gig i'm gonna play the Benny Hill theme song

My intro tune at the begging of d&b sets in the 90's was the 'Strar wars' theme tune, slowly crossfaded to 'Dj SS "Rollers convention

Yeah, there are some songs that might get you hurt... like this one. I dont even think aerosmith would play this one anymore lol.

On my radio show one time I played Blind Melon "No Rain" and just watched the numbers drop until I stopped it... kinda wish Ida thought that one through a bit more - but hey, its at 70BPM!
