Curious to hear some feedback on these two, which are downloadable if you like em:

Soundcloud

Soundcloud

They're both way more garagey than most of the stuff in this thread.

Any feedback appreciated!

Hey guys, first time posting, I've been slightly intimidated by the general quality of tracks here so I've refrained from posting my crap 'till I had something good enough.

Anyway, gotta give some feedback.

@jsaxton
Your first tune is huge, really liking your bass sounds. Sick stuff, can't think of anything negative to say really.

@Bodega
I'm not that into garage so it's a bit hard to comment. I like the first track more, the drums are cool, I like them clangy sounds. The production seems solid.

@bifta
Nice drum programming on the first track, I think the bass could go a bit deeper. Also I think it could use a bit more variation.

If anyone could comment on the track in my sig that'd be great, It's called Gameboy Deathrattle. I haven't really played my stuff to anyone but my friends who aren't that into dubstep so any feedback would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

had a listen, liking the intro but its not really my kinda thing after the drop so not that big of a fan of it

i can give you some feedback on your mixdown though

your kick sample you use in my opinion sounds more like a really big tom than a kick and think i can do with more bass to give it more oomph. also, when all the synths come in at around 2:19, they overpower most of your drums (excluding the rim shot) so they could probably do with being turned up to around the same level, or just turn the level of the synths down

hope you find these comments of some use

i'm really feeling 'oh those sexy sweatpants'. everything works well together, the mixdown sounds really clean and the bass gives the track a really nice groove. only thing i would say is lose that bit of white noise that comes in every so often

i feel blimps is a bit too drone like with that constant bass pattern for the first 2 mins. i like the way you introduce new elements every couple bars but i tbh, i don't really think its my cup of tea so i'm gonna stop commenting before you get pissed off

Thanks for the response, and don't worry about pissing me off if it's not your cup of tea. If you had said, "your track's shit and you're a tnuc", then that'd be a bit different. Blimps is really influenced by Maurizio and that whole Basic Channel dub techno thing - which a lot of people find too droney in the first place - I just "garaged" it up.

edit: I'm digging that "Do you" track in your sig. Smooth.

Also, ASu - thanks for the feedback.

@ Mistayif - Thtat tune is sounding wicked - got proper drive and heavyness to it without being massively in your face, lovin the drum pattern.

I wouldn't rape anyone over it, but I would suggest that the side-chain compression is a touch much. I assume you're using your whole drum bus to control the lead's compression? Having the snare cut the lead all the way down is pretty extreme. That's maybe just a matter of taste - certainly there are a lot of producers (Shlomo, for example) that are just crushing things with side-chain compression. But to me it seemed a bit much.

That's the only thing I can think of to complain about, though - it's sounding pretty clean. Nice balanced mix. Everything in it's right place.

What kind of monitors are you using?

I guess you've got a whole crapload of compression across the mix, then, because the lead and the drums are interacting is a pretty serious way. Every time the snare hits, the lead disappears.

It's not a bad thing per se, just something to be aware of.

@ Collision:
I like that you're doing something new, and the original drum sounds are nice. The track feels a bit disjointed at the moment though. The piano that slides up doesn't really seem to fit with the track, it's just been stuck over the top. The pads/subbass also seem a bit out of place, i wanted experimental, weird bass, to fit with the vibe of the drums flow (which is great). Listen to stuff like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olFSPhCZ ... re=related
for what i'm getting at, though obviously don't just straight up copy.

@dubsac:
Nice movement in the synths at the start, though i'm not a fan of the "pre-drop" drum intro at 0.20. 1.01 to 1.46 wasn't really to my taste, and got a bit dull, you lost that movement you had in the first synth section by trying to go so over the top with your lfo. Chilled section in the middle was nice. Generally i'd just work sure on making sure you really get the synth and drums working together, especially when you've crushed the synth as much as this, getting a more obvious low mid/sub movement under it could help in this respect.

@Code zero:
I think it might be the mix not the mastering, and you're sounding pretty muddy. If you can get away with it without affecting the sound of the synths too much try to cut some of the 300-900Hz range in the individual tracks. Make sure you're lowcutting everythingthing that doesn't need sub as well. You'd be surprised how rubbish and muddy the random bass in hihats can make stuff sound.

Be careful with how much you're trying to fit in as well, there were a couple of points in the track that just seemed like they had almost had enough space, but not quite. The mix might help with this, but I'd listen through and really critically think if you need EVERY element in there. The section starting at 2.18 is a good example imo of somewhere that could benefit with being thinned out a bit, to make better use of the great minimal drumbeat.

Yeah nice to hear someone doing something a bit different from all the standard wobbles everyone seems to be doing. Really nice production on the both of them. Nice work :)

Seems a tad repetitive, I think the intro sounds would sound more natural and pleasing with more verb (preference).
Production seems clean/crisp.
