Re: USA vs UK?
I agree with most of what you say but the part about Belgians making better beer than us is fucking HERESY.alphacat wrote:Well, technically you didn't give the world the USA: we stole ourselves from you and then gave it to the world, slutty slutty nation that we are. Y'all got pwned by a bunch of podunk rebels.uncle bill wrote:They gave the world jazz, soul, house, techno, hip hop and rock & roll.
We gave the world jungle, dubstep, ale, Shakespeare, cheddar and the USA.
It's a difficult call.![]()
Also, while Jungle was definitely a homegrown UK invention, much of its musical DNA [breakbeat, techno, hip hop, etc.] came from the USA (minus the Jamaican elements: however, Jamaican music was, in turn, influenced more by American music like R&B than almost anything else besides its African roots due to their proximity to our shores and ability to tune in our radio broadcasts back inna day...)
Finally, while the word "ale" is definitely English in origin, the style of brewing predates the creation of the modern British nation by a long shot - it was already around in the middle ages when Britain was just several petty fiefdoms constantly fighting each other and half of 'em spoke French or Gaelic. In fact, the first beer ever brewed would probably qualify as an ale. AND - Belgians make better ales than you lot.
I will grant you cheddar though.![]()
And I was going to credit you guys with giving us Kelly LeBrock in the eighties, but can't even do that - she was born in NYC.
Hit that long lunar note and let it float ...

Call me Hæresiarch, then. You point me at an English ale that's better than a Tripel Karmeliet and I'll retract that statement.uncle bill wrote:I agree with most of what you say but the part about Belgians making better beer than us is fucking HERESY.
In fact, at the World Beer Awards in London a couple years ago it won "WORLD'S BEST ALE." I mean, how you gonna beat that son?

Re: USA vs UK?
Sorry, but Belgian beers are just the best in the world.
BTW isn't Stella the beer that is drunk the most in the UK? I do know one thing about it though. It's Belgian.
