Its like, I dont think he sucks per se, thats all opinon... but in my opinion (and Im known to have some controversial/invalid ones)... the slow rapping, combined with the 'grinning gremlin voice' as I like to call it, and the straight up rapping thesaurus rhymes... theres not much talent there... more standup comedy then MCing...

the mixtape arguement fails. mixtapes are made quickly and with very little production value. thats what mixtapes are. dudes mixtapes are better than most. go listen to DJ Drama Dedication, this is a solid intro to lil wayne's freestyling ablilty.
his albums got better and better up to the carter 3 which he will never top. Ever.

I used to play Tha Block Iz Hot back in '99. Haven't heard it in forever but it was a completely different vibe than his newer shit. I guess he was a teenager back then. Shit he even had albums before that album.

It's interesting how he outlasted most of the other Cash Money/No Limit-era dudes and still maintains relevance.

I seriously doubt in 5-10 years time his name will hold any weight. But for being able to stick around for this many years doing what he's doing - I'll give him props for that.

I think of him like Kanye...as far as top 40 rap music goes, he isn't that bad. Their albums are interesting enough for a couple of listens.
