LinPlug Octopus - this little gem is rarely mentioned but is full of dark textures.

I could never get on with Circle man..... :?

People have told me that its pretty similar in sound to Massive. Dunno if thats right or not.
its not a million miles away sound-wise but i wouldn't say its similar. i find the routing is more intuitive and i like the filters on it, along with operator it has become my "goto" synth and superseded massive.
the routing is pretty much the same as massive. IMO massive has a bit more of a "gnarlier" sound if that makes any sense but circle is really nice, if a tiny bit overpriced.

Nothing out of the ordinary here, my current most used VSTis are FM8, Massive & Alchemy

I was gonna make a new thread for this, but I figure I'll just try and tack it on the end here...
I have no experience with VSTs or whatever. I've been messing around with massive and the es2 and it's really not gelling.

I learned how to program on my R3, really simple just subtractive.

Are there any simple VSTs out there? I mean without all of these curves and stuff, just old-school knobs and sliders and stuff.

Don't kill me cause I'm a noob please.

if you're looking for synths, vanguard is pretty basic. albino is also a pretty easy synth once you figure out the mod matrix. just check out google or kvr audio. spend some time searching, you'll find loads of basic, free synths

I'm with you on that, but I think I'm done with cubase, so no more fl vsti for me. How sick is that though, that you can put a daw in a daw, fucking revolutionary.

Just from the screen shot of octopus, I like. I'm so cheezy though, cool blues and grays, hi contrast black fields. Looks like I could like using it.

Re the person looking for a straight forward subtractive synth. Honestly I think massive is a very straight forward synth. There is a lot of power there, but you don't need to go there if you don't want to. Pick a square wav, mix it with a saw, send it to a filter, bob's your uncle. After you get familiar with it's basic layout, you can start to look into it's doper features. But for basic subtractive synthesis, I always recommend massive.

I've never used nexus, but I want to give it a shot. I kind of like the idea of a preset synth, just something you can flick through presets. Never heard it though, so prolly gash after all!

If I did have a favorite and it was not listed here I would tell you I dont have one:D
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

i prefer to rewire a combinator bass from Reason into Logic so i can then fully manipulate my bass. If im feeling lazy i just load up massive or absynth! Id say Absynth is my favorite atm,ive been able to make some of the most grimey bass sounds innit.

I'm still figuring out Logic. And I'm on a Mac, so that's another point.

Gonna start figuring out Ableton soon too.

I just want something super simple that I can hopefully find somewhere for free.
